The fiancé and I went through and updated our BOBs. Remember to check them and replace what's out dated or improve (new ideas) what you have. After being in a vehicle and the temperature swings some things are questionable !! Just my 2 cents !

Not a bad idea to check on/replace the food stuffs kept in there.
How do MREs handle temp swings?

Mine is more of a get home bag but if you carry food one of the best items I have found that temperature doesn't seem to affect is nuts. I keep a few bags of various nuts in mine. Light weight, high calorie and who doesn't enjoy some salty nuts in their mouth?

I change out our Bob's twice a year, for cold/hot weather, and for water and food. It's something that for sure could be overlooked. Thanks for the reminder.

yes, we check our Get Home Bags during the Christmas Holidays,
and again around Independence Day. we check our smoke detectors, too.

I actually bought a new bag at the Dixie this past weekend. Going through everything just kinda makes you review and improve or delete some items. I have added a SOG Seal Pup to the bag and removed the Airforce Survival knife I have had since my service days. I also changed the menu of my MRE. I think I will make a ammo bag out of the old pack !!!!!!

MRES are more apt to go bad in a car that gets 130 inside In the summer time. I keep those at home in a more controlled environment and keep some mountain house pouches and bars in the truck. Depending on how far you’d have to walk, just some protein bars would be fine

I did MRE because my pack (LBT) has an actual MRE pouch on the bottom. But maybe I should toss that thing and put in nuts and granola etc

If you have any sort of hike, water is going to be a big issue. It’s also heavy. Be sure you have a filter or LifeStraw to drink from questionable sources. I’ve stored, even if accidentally, bottled water in the car and while it froze, it didn’t break. If you put some in a secondary container for containment in case of a leak, these could be stored in your car. I would expect summer heat to make them go stale so you might want to replenish them frequently.

water in the car: don't do what i did and use aluminum/metal canteens/bottles.
when they froze, they split. i thought they would be stronger than that.
anyway...now using plastic or whatever will flex with the ice.
even those super-thin bottled waters haven't broken.
