Picked up a nice Remington 241 in 22LR. I wasn't sure about it, the guy I got it from just said it was a Speedmaster. I was thinking the Remington 252 which I'd owned before and really liked. When he brought this one out I almost passed on it. But I really like this firearm. The design is amazing. I believe this is a John Browning design and the form and function are awesome. Loading port in the stock looks a little odd but works great. Very easy to use and even though it only holds 10 it's probably the easiest gun to load I've ever owned. The gun functions flawlessly with any ammo. I pulled out Fed Automatch, Remington Golden Bullets Bulk Pack, Some boxes of Federal Lightning and Remington Thunderbolt so old it had some light corrosion and $1 a box on the price tag. It shot it all flawlessly. One FTF where it snapped on it but it didn't fire. Cycled it through the next time with no issue. It even cycled some sub-sonic ammo I had! The accuracy was better than what I expected as well. Iron sights and old eyes aren't an ideal combo but I was shooting pretty respectable 25 yard groups off the bench. But the coolest thing is that the rifle breaks down into two parts. Just pull back on the button on the side of the receiver, rotate the barrel 90 degrees and it slides right out. Can be taken apart and put back together in about 10 seconds with some practice. Perfect for a camp rifle. This is my new favorite 22 rifle. Hard to believe that according to the date code on the barrel it shipped in 1939.
Anybody else have any experience with this model?

We need pictures!
I've been wanting a 24 or 241 myself.

The Speedmaster was my 3rd or 4th .22 rifle. It was handed down to me from my Grandfathers oldest brother, Oscar. He said he was too old to hunt anymore and wanted me to have it, I took it!!! He kept hunting anyway so I know it was a present.

Always reliable, shot pretty good with the scope IF you kept the barrel/receiver tight and stop taking it apart. The receiver on mine had been drilled and tapped, not an ideal situation. From experience, DO NOT attempt to put sling swivels on it. It places too much strain on the barrel/receiver junction and it will crack the magazine tube and some assh**le gunsmith will charge you 40.00 (in 1964 that was a LOT of money for a kid) to silver solder it back.

I have 2...one from my dad he got for Christmas when he was 11 and one my grandad bought the day I was born. Absolutely love them both!

Nice oh so very nice.
Congratulations.

Yes, a re-design of the model 24 and is of Browning lineage. nothing like a 41 at all...

can have some trouble with ejection/feeding, but can't them all... cases don't drop out sometimes, but are extracted from chamber
the Numrich recoil spring is not correct (one i received is not anyway), but extractor and extractor spring are ok sourced from there.

The 241 (1935 - 1951) is Remingtons' second design based on the Browning patent, the 24 (1922 - 1935 ) being the first. The Browning SA-22 (1914 - 1974 FN) (1976 to present Miroku) was not available in North America until 1956. The 241 differs from the SA-22 in the locking mechanism. The 24 is the slimmest and lightest of them all.

Here is my model 24. Since this picture, I've added a vintage peep sight designed for the model 24. I use it with CCI Quiet-22 rounds. It's the only semi-auto rifle I have found that will cycle Quiet-22s.

Beautiful gun there acl864!

Glad to find this thread. I believe I am committed to a deal tomorrow for a Remington 241. It is an absolute beater and ugly duckling. I’m probably over paying but sometimes beaters are my favorites. Dates to 1936 I think?

Barrel looks to have been shortened. A lot. Bluing is gone. Two gigantic holes in left side of receiver (assume for a 3/4 scope mount at some point.) Butt stock chipped and repaired at trigger guard. Wood is quite nice though.

I’ll post a pic or two once I get it tomorrow. Hopefully it cycles well and shoots straight. :)
