This series recently popped up on my Amazon list and I recall fond memories of this show. Just finished binging all five seasons.
It was a very “progressive” show for its time in that it featured a female lead actress receiving top billing, and that her character was the one strongly in charge behind the scenes. Looking back at the episodes, you can definitely see some of the prevailing sexism of the time in the dialogue and scenes when there were other top competing shows like Hunter, TJ Hooker, and The A Team broadcast around the same time with male leads.
I really liked the noir feel of the show, and the first season intro with Stephanie Zimbalist giving the narration of how she created the character of Remington Steele, with that great jazzy track in the background. And Stephanie Zimbalist was an absolute babe in her prime!
Pierce got his big break in this show and would of course later on assume the title of James Bond. When the show was canceled, he was supposed to be Bond but the producers pulled the offer and gave it to Tim Dalton instead. That forced him to do one more (crap) season of RS that was only a few mini-episodes of him and Laura Holt getting married, traveling to Ireland for their honeymoon, and uncovering a mystery all at the same time.
I enjoyed the show and the humorous way they played off the fake Remington Steele. It’s like Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson, but with Watson the one really cracking all the cases.
