The USA is not alone with the problem of mentally deranged individuals and criminals. Despite already stringent gun laws, both Britain and Australia suffered mass shootings in the 1980s and 1990s. They mistakenly decided that even stricter gun control was the most effective way to guarantee your safety and your right to protect yourself.

Violent crime in Britain has been going up while in the US it’s gone down. Britain's violent crime rate in 2017 increased to 2,700 per 100,000 people while the USA rate decreased to 394. Latest official crime statistics show there's now 6.85 MORE violent crime in Britain than the USA. The violent crime rate gap has WIDENED from 4.36 (2,034 vs 466) in the earlier report, see previous image above.

Libs don't care about violence as long as it's not gun violence. But comparing us to Europe is apples to oranges. One they are not free, and two they sometimes smell and talk funny.

This march/september crap makes me not trust what I’m seeing at face value

Knife assaults are endemic in GB, especially in the big cities. When I was in London in 2015 there were posters everywhere entreating knife carriers to "bin the knife" i.e. toss the knife in the trash. Violent crime is definitely on the rise.

I've read that the number of illegal firearms confiscated by the authorities goes up every year in the UK. This means that either firearms entering GB illegally or the quantity of unregistered arms in GB was significantly larger than estimated. I'm going with the weapons are entering illegally. The number of officers trained and routinely issued firearms is increasing and not just because of terrorism.

Anecdotal evidence: when I was in Japan way back in 1995 with the Army, the nightly news had a couple of stories about handguns being found in sewers by municipal workers. They were Ruger Mk1s and Chinese Tokarevs at least according to the photos that accompanied the stories. The authorities figured they were brought in by organized crime and either used and dumped or tossed when a BG was approached by a police officer. Handguns in Japan are unobtainium for the rank and file citizen. Other stories reported knifings in Toyko.

Just as an aside, handgun ownership of normal, everyday handguns is still legal in Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man.
