So I think it's time for new tie rods on the ole girl at 190K, may need ball joints too but I have not inspected them in detail to be certain.

Toyota OEM inners are $178 each compared to aftermarket MEVOTECH at $23 and NAPA as much as $86 each. While I'm not totally opposed to going OEM that is a huge leap and I'd like to be sure the juice is worth the squeeze.

Also what about the outer tie rods, the price gap is much less so should I go OEM or aftermarket on these? TIA.

Don't know about those particular parts, but Denso makes a lot of oem parts for Toyota.

Avoid moog. I’d go with precision parts from O’reillys if you don’t want to pay for oem.

I always try and get Denso if available. 2003 w/197k

We used Moog tie rods and ball joints on one of the 4 Runners my son was fixing up to sell. They looked to be good quality. Used factory Toyota parts on his 1st gen Tundra. The best place I have found to order factory Toyota parts is McGeorge Toyota online. They are up in Richmond and seem to stock just about anything and always ship quick.

You guys recommending moog would have been right 5 years ago. The brand is crap now.

Edit, just went and looked but we had already sent back a ball-joint we unfortunately could only find local in Moog. Came in without any of the 4 mounting holes drilled. That just the latest Moog issues. Don’t get me started on their parts on a 3/4 ton or larger vehicle. 👎👎👎

Company is based there. I run xrf on both my trucks. Not big on moog.
Although the lower ball joints were replaced under a recall in 2008 the XRF package includes them, it's probably worth the cost and hassle to go that route. I just hope the control arm bushings are good.
The only MOOG parts on the truck are the sway bar links and they date back to 2012.

Know its old now, but
a) Moog is hit and miss. Ive had some stuff just not fit. And it was the 'proper' item for my car
b) Toyota Parts Deal is the best place Ive found for toyota/lexus parts for cheap - OEM, real deal Toyota, just without the dealer markup
lastly
c) Amamya or something like that has very hard to find Toyota parts for cheap. All new and authentic, but a place to look for the discontinued bits

I work an Autozone right now and have also been in the service end of the Auto repair business at the dealership level for over 40 years. Pretty much all auto parts are made in China from junk metal and I believe that OEM parts come from the same place since everyone is trying to save on cost. I can tell you that Autozone sells a LOT of suspension/steer parts ( From China) and we really don't have a measurable return rate/warranty concerns. Now electrical parts we have a high return rate, meaning junk. Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to use Cheap Autonzone steering or suspension components as compared to OEM. I think they are all the same parts under different badging. Kinda like putting lip stick on a pig. You results might vary from my opinion. Well Dayum,, I just noticed this is an old post and just wasted my time.

Thanks for the tip on Toyota Parts Deal!
They listed some small parts I need to finish up that I wasn't able to find listed elsewhere. I need a couple Oetiker clamps for the steering rack boots and a couple o-rings for the ABS wheel speed sensors. If the local dealer doesn't stock them I now have a source.
