What is the best way to research the value of an older model gun that is rarely bought/sold? I would like to sell a few items. I don’t have anything super valuable or anything, but I’d like to have some idea what they’re worth before I list them. Guidance?

Without knowing the models you are talking about - check gun broker and other auction sights. Google will often yield some older for sale ads. You can also find specific groups for just about every type of gun

Just remember...never trust Any appraisal that does not come with an offer to Buy at that price.
I don’t believe this at all. Just because I don’t want to purchase a firearm someone is selling doesn’t mean I can’t give an appraisal.

I always laugh at the ones that say I’d be a buyer at X amount knowing good and well it’s worth more. But an appraiser is just an opinion. If I know the subject and what they currently go for I will give my opinion but I usually try to back it up with examples.

Couple tips to expand on Google and GunBroker:

When googling, add "forum" to your search terms. It'll limit your search to posts on boards like this, instead of the random crap trying to sell you something that often comes up.

On GunBroker, be sure to find the option for completed searches. This is great for less-common firearms because it gives you more examples. And it also avoids the problem of people throwing items up with ridiculous prices to see if anyone will bite. The market value is what someone will pay after all. I think you might have to verify a credit card with a $1 charge to be able to access this feature, but not certain.
