This is a little rescue that I made 629-1. She was dirty and unloved when I got her. The thumb piece nut had been stripped and glued in place. The hand torsion spring was broken. She had gouges in the end of the barrel and on the cylinder where she had been dropped. Cylinder walls charred from never being cleaned after shooting. Finish was scratched and marred everywhere. So I did all I could to bring her back. The finish turned out better than I expected. It took patience and effort. But I am happy with it. I will get some better photos of her up soon.

Lee...welcome to the forum. Nice meeting you the other day. This must be the bead blast job that you mentioned. Good stuff. Glad another revolver guy joined us.

Nice rescue! Looks great to me, I'll bet it's a good shooter.

That's a show-stopper right there C&L. If this were a contest I'd call you the winner and game over! Absolutely gorgeous (not to mention extremely rare) gun and beautiful pictures.

Aw shucks, thanks

acl864 is right. We only made it to the 5th page of this thread before Cocked & Locked dropped the money shot. It's all down hill from here.

Not one to be outdone...I also have a two tone revolver. As you can see from the factory letter, this was delivered to NASA in 1969. Some of the nickel is peeling. I understand that to be from exposure to radiation in space. This was carried by astronauts.

That would go great with my tin foil hat,
for special occasions.

LMAO Prosecutor at his Tin-to.

My buddy just got a Registered Magnum. It's only the second one that I've ever seen. I'll see if I can get a picture or two to show you guys.

Edit: I forgot that he sent me a photo when he got it. 1935 Registered Magnum, Nickel, 4 inch barrel, King sights. It was returned to S&W in 1975 for a re-nickel and doesn't look like it was fired since. It had incorrect diamond Magnas on it and he said if it already had the wrong grips, he was going to dress it up a little.

Come on man, don't even try that. That gun was NOT carried by astronauts. It was a prototype gun for the NASA REB -Resist Electromagnetic pulse Bureau. Established in the deep South under deep cover it was conceived as a think tank for the development of products that would be resistant to the dreaded EMP. For example- fieldgrade's tin foil hat is an early and well known product of this initiative.

The REB revolver is not as common but examples occasionally turn up. Usually in the South and strangely almost always after midnight. The cladding made out of highly refined and extruded Sn alloy is purposefully left wrinkly and loose to better disperse the EMP waves. The cladding was even included on the thumb latch to prevent heat build up during an EMP event to facilitate the ability to reload. These guys thought of everything.

Your example is obviously still classified as Top Secret since Roy didn't put the letter on S&W Letterhead. That way nobody could prove that he actually identified the revolver and prosecute him for disclosing classified info. Your revolver appears to be in unfired ANIB condition but is unfortunately missing the original grips.

Thanks guys. Like most smart asses I say or post things to amuse myself. If somebody else thinks it's funny too. That's just a bonus.

I agree 100%. I've always admired his photography skills. The fact that his favorite subjects are vintage revolvers doesn't hurt either.

It's the CFF way. I think we have that engraved somewhere, or somebody wrote it with their finger in the cement in Chad's driveway.

These rough finish guns are nice because you cannot make them ugly...they came that way from the factory. That said, this parkerized finish, or whatever it is, does not inhibit rust very well. Got to stay on top of it.

Hubba hubba. I passed on a Monson, MA 15-2 with 4" & 6" barrels a couple years ago for $300. Simply didn't have the money :-(

My pair o' Ruger .41s.

Not the rarest Ruger single actions, by any stretch, but definitely 2 of the rarer ones & 2 of the 3 s/ss .41 single actions Ruger's ever done. A quick cylinder-full through the Hunter tonight, out behind the gunshop tells me this one is most definitely a keeper.

3 inch J frames do not get the love they deserve. These are fantastic carry guns. Balanced with better ballistics and sight radius than 2" guns but carry / conceal just as easily. It's what I carried today...in a TT Gunleather KX Lightweight IWB.
