Revolver Picture Thread

Picked up a new Smith & Wesson 2 inch K Frame snub nose today. It was a Gunbroker purchase. TARHEELSTATE in Matthews handled the transfer.

This is a Model 64-4 NY-1 revolver. It is a stainless steel, 6 shot, .38 Special. This is one of the early models without a bead-blasted finish or second serial number stamp on the left side. NY-1 is stamped into the frame above model number. It is DAO with a factory spurless hammer. S&W sold these to NYPD which in turn made them available to NYPD officers. I am going to talk with the retired NYPD officer who carried it in a day or two.

Here it is pictured with a 3" 64-5 NY-1 that has the bead-blasted finish

Good find on the 64. It looks at home with that 3 incher.

Wow. 3 inch, flat latch, diamonds, round butt. Do you shoot it?
'course I choot it!

It was me mother's but me father put huge Herrett target grips on it. I had to buy Altamont grips to put it back to normal.

The old favorite. A S&W Model 10 chambered for 357 from the factory.

Your photos are not showing up. Is that one of the Model 10-6 chambered in .357?

Confused. The photos are showing in mine and your posts (to me). And yes. Cannot remember particulars but an LE agency requested S&W to run some before the 19 was produced.

The Model 10-6 chambered in .357 was the precursor to the Model 13.

Not all 10-6 are .357.

Tom

You are correct. Didn't mean to say it that way. Was not clear. The Models 10-6 chambered in .357 (generally - the design) was the precursor to the Model 13. Some Models 10-6 were chambered in .38 Special.

Carried this today...Smith & Wesson Model 37 in a Sideguard IWB holster.

The holster is made from Colt D Frames. Revolver tip of the day: If you carry S&W J Frames and Colt D Frames in-waist-band (Detective Special, Cobra, Agent), just get Colt D Frame holsters and use them for both.

Sure! Here's my Smith & Wesson Model 66 with its original wooden grips. I got it a bit over a month ago, and it's quickly become my favorite pistol I own. Sweet trigger, low recoil, and with some Hogue molded rubber grips, it's beautifully accurate. Best pistol purchase I've ever made.

I picked up some J Frame combat and Colt D Frame grips from an older manufacturer, Monte Carlo. Can find almost no info about this grip maker online. The combats are a bit large but comfortable. Might switch them over to a 3" Model 37. The Colt D Frame grips are a bit thinner than stock grips.

Those look a lot like Craig Spegel's grips. They look good on those revolvers.

Would you believe that I bought this new and have never fired it?

I would believe it. People do crazy stuff like that sometimes. Sir, you need to load that thing with 158 grain LSWCHPs and stick it in your waistband or pocket (in a suitable holster of course). That is one of the finest CCW revolvers out there.

Shhhhh! Your secret is safe with us. Now, get out there and run some rounds through it. You have one of the best carry guns made, put it to work for you.

Another one of my favorites. SW 586 L-Comp. Wish I could find a pre-lock. I understand they made just a few.

This is to follow-up on my earlier post about the 2" 64-4 NY-1. Today, I received the 4" Model 64 NY-1 from the same retired NYPD officer. He carries these while patrolling Harlem and Washington Heights. Bought the 4" when he graduated from the police academy. NYPD officers purchase their firearms from the NYPD Equipment Section. Came with the box and inspection paper.

Cool revolvers. Those are made to shoot like a DA revolver is meant to be shot, DA.

Here is the 2" NY-1 all dressed up for carry with the Barami, Tyler T, and rubber combination. May end up putting the wood back on tomorrow to keep original NY-1 configuration. Have another 2" 64 on the way. Should be here tomorrow.

The new Smith & Wesson 64-4 arrived today. This is another 2" DAO like the 2" NY-1 posted a few days ago...except this is not a NY-1. It was probably part of a contract run for Brinks Security or similar.

This is one of those guns that has been carried a lot but shot very little. It is mechanically perfect but was absolutely filthy. It was disgusting. It was as if somebody carried it in their asshole for 20 years. It also appeared to have been lubed with honey or molasses. The internals were sticky with a thin layer of congealed lubricant. Cannot even describe what was going on under the grips. I did not get pictures of the worst grime...had to wipe it down immediately. It took a lot of Q-Tips, Goo Gone, etc.

Here it is wearing the ridiculously large Pachmayr grips. No reason that a snub should have grips larger than the revolver itself.

HArd to see in the photo, but there is a sticky film and grime on everything.

Here it is (on the left) with its twin...the NY-1. All cleaned up and ready for new grips. Might take the Barami, T Grip, and rubber from the NY-1 and replace the original NY-1 wood grips.
