Just noticed my S&W revolver sparks around the firing pin with all the lights off in DA or SA... with an empty cylinder of course.

RECENTLY tightened the screw on the forward side of the frame since I was getting light primer strikes in DA. Did I overtighten?

Loosen the screw and see if you still get sparks?

What model S&W, including the dash?

Is the firing pin mounted directly to the hammer or is the pin integral with the frame?

If you pull back on the hammer, then release it while holding on...then slowly let the hammer down, can you see/feel it contact the frame?

X frame 500. Pin is internal not on the hammer. Can't see the hammer hitting the frame at all. No odd feeling at all.

I doubt you were actually getting "light primer strikes" before..well, that may have been the result, but I mean I suspect you have something else to blame besides spring tension. With those integral firing pins, I think your best bet is send it in for warranty work.

The primer strikes were only light in DA. Not one failed in SA. Haven't been back to the range since tightening but visually the hammer is coming back further in DA now. Been a common fix for a lot of people

"S&W tech says sparks are perfectly normal. Titanium firing pin going through steel firing pin bushing. She said that fit needs to be really tight there to avoid primer flow when shooting .357 Magnum rounds."
My little pocket piece (340PD) does the same thing, this is the info I got.
