RMR mount in a .22 pistol

I have a Vortex Venom on the way that will go on my S&W Victory .22

Is there any significant benefit to using a dedicated RMR mount vs the pic rail?

I imagine the RMR mount would sit somewhat lower. And that would eliminate a failure point

Pistol > mount > RMR
vs
Pistol > pic rail > pic mount > RMR

Use case is just plinking with my boys and the f’ing squirrels that disturb my mid-hunt naps.

Yes - the pic rail on the Victory is plastic, so I wouldn't want to trust that. Also the lower the dot is to the barrel, the better off you will be. Check out Tandemkross - they just released a mount that has holes for all your popular red dots.
