This sucks... I've known and worked with the victim for years. Please pray for him and his family, he's also a professional driver.
This scenario is something folks should take notes from:
1)- Don’t follow the schmuck, just get a tag #/dashcam video
2)- Don't get out of the car
3)- Don't let your adrenaline/rage beat you, it's not worth it
4)- Stay diligent
5)- Be prepared for a perp

Man with wife, child in car shot during road rage incident in Mooresville
MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Deputies are searching for a man who shot someone during a road rage incident Sunday morning in Mooresville.

Officials told Channel 9 that Ludwick was driving down Fern Hill Road just before noon with his wife and child in their Ford Explorer when they came upon a slow-moving car and passed it.
The driver of the slower car then immediately began tailgating the couple, according to deputies.
The tailgating continued onto Perth Road and then Judas Road. When both vehicles stopped at the intersection of Judas and Cornelius roads, authorities said the driver of the slower vehicle threw a drink cup at Ludwick’s Ford Explorer.
Ludwick then followed the suspect, who pulled into a random driveway on Cornelius Road. When Ludwick, got out of his SUV and started walking toward the car, the other driver pulled out a handgun and shot him in the abdomen, deputies said.
The shooter then sped off onto Cornelius Road, turning onto Judas Road.
Sheriff Darren Campbell said Ludwick was taken to the hospital, where he was rushed into surgery. He is listed in serious but stable condition.
The suspect was a white man described as having brown hair, slight facial hair and wearing orange-tinted sunglasses. He was driving a silver or gray Nissan, possibly a Sentra.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office at 704-878-3180.

This right here:

Eons ago, I was driving down I-95, and a guy almost ran me off the road coming down the ramp, and I flipped him off....bad idea! ( I was 25, ok? Stupider than I am now.)

He followed me and we ended up at a rest stop with him coming at me across the parking area, and that's the one and only time I ever showed anyone my gun....which was a Raven .25 auto...LOL....but it did make him turn around and go back to his car and drive off.

I did many, many dumb things during that incident....but I lived to tell, amazingly enough.

Now, I just flip them off out of their view, and go on with my business, remembering how wrong that day could have gone for me.

To be fair, if you'rn gonna get out of your car at least armor and arm up lest you get popped COM by millie with her Raven .25 in fear of her life (I FEARD MUH LIFFFFFE!!)

Honestly old boy who stopped and popped could have probably stayed put and claimed SYG. Not that it would be a clear cut case but hey......he was being followed et al.

Nobody who's seen me shoot will be in any fear for their life! However, I do have really good shooting days every now and then, so you never know.....do ya feel lucky, punk? LOL.

But that dude didn't know I had only shot that gun about 2 magazines worth, ever.....lol.

Raven 25 Auto. What a wonderful firearm. I have one that was given to me by one of my LEO buddies in Florida decades ago. I never asked where he got it, and he never said. I took off the pitiful little safety and wrapped tape around the grips to keep them on. I think I still have it somewhere in one of my buckets full of gun parts in my loading room. I will say, however, that it never failed to fire or cycle the few times I actually shot it. I would rather have it than a sharp stick in a gun fight.

Mine is currently broken, but I hope to get it looked at soon....something in the grip that you have to "reset" each time so it will fire....it's old!

It'd be nice to have everything delivered and have a personal chauffeur.
Amazon and Uber.

Just sayin'. :D

Had a guy try to cut me off the other day. I'm in the middle lane of a practically empty wide 4 lane road and the changes into my lane almost hitting me. Ok, what's his deal? Continue conversing with my wife as the guy speeds ahead. Later, he wins into a high speed left hand turn on to a side road, stops the truck, curses me and flips the bird. I have no idea what his issue was.

I've found that I've calmed down to the point of being nonchalant while driving since I was issued my carry permit in Illinois. My wife started calling me gramps. I even traded in my fast car for a suv because if I was going to lumber around and be in the way I might as well look the part. When people see a car they assume has 300+ hp going nowhere they get all pissy because they anticipate that one is in the fast lane. They used to whip by and flip me off for going too slow.

I seldom get on the road that I don't consider shooting some dumb bastard.
Assuming you’re going down to Conway Saturday, would you kindly post your route?

I promise i will never get out of the car before a pit manuever trying to wreck someone like Ryan Newman. Softens em up before a gun battle

and I flipped him off....bad idea!
A coworker used to say, “don’t give them one finger, give them all five” (i.e. whole hand) You’re flipping them off five times and using a gesture that isn’t as inflammatory and you could claim you waived at them.

I like it! lol.

How many folks here would have fired on someone for approaching their vehicle after/during an altercation?
I mean, someone followed a member's daughter recently and the member was prepared with a gun, so it is far fetched?

Im sorry for your friend Pink, hope he is ok. But following someone and getting out to approach is just not bright.

hoping that gun was illegally possessed ...horrible for the wife and kid to see that holy crap

I hear ya. But pointing a gun at something you intend to destroy doesnt mean ya HAVE to destroy it, ya know? That guy is pretty effed in the A now and its bad for all of us if he was legally carrying that gun and it was lawfully purchased.

Respectfully disagree. If things have progressed to the point that a weapon can be seen in my hand, the odds that I won't use it are remarkably low.

This was a bad call by both parties, but what criminals choose to do of their own accord in no way reflects on the law abiding, and whether or not that gun was carried/owned legally has no bearing on the ultimate decision to use it illegally.

6)- Suspect/profile all Nissan drivers  (30 years ago when I sold cars, Nissan would give loans to people that frequently couldn't pay them back. Many of the Nissan drivers were sketchy to say the least.)

I'm praying for your friend and his family.

I drive a Nissan.

I would not have pulled over to further the incident...

When I was 10 years old, my grandfather told me, "If you pull it out, you better be ready to pull the trigger. No messing around..."

Yeah, I'm not saying it should weigh on the individual decision to pull the trigger or not...at all. I'm saying that it will greatly influence the whether this fades into background or becomes fodder for the anti-gun movement. you can't envision the headlines if legal? They salivate for the opportunity.

I understand where you're coming from, but those folks don't let us off the hook when the weapons in question are illegally obtained. They simply don't want us to have them under any circumstances, legality is simply a useful plank in their platform. I'll give them all the consideration they're likely to give me, none.

When I was a LEO, they taught us, "Draw it whenever you feel like it. That's called Officers Presence! "

Now, as a civilian, they say, "Don't pull it unless you absolutely need to pull the trigger! Or else we'll call it BRANDISHING! and we'll arrest you for that! "

I'll take brandishing over a miscalculated homicide 10 out of 10 times. If I got spooked a unholstered my weapon and subsequently noticed the person I was drawing on begin to retreat and/or unarmed, I wouldn't be fretting much. The difference between what this guy will experience and what millie experienced I can assure you will be very different. As former LEO, I imagine im lecturing to choir, but one is getting arrested and going through the system with a likely conviction and the other had a meaningful life lesson with no arrest.

Overall, maybe. But the reporting stats seem to disagree. people getting shot with illegal guns supports our side, which is why thousands of children are snuffed out on a monthly basis without as much as a footnote. The George Zimmermans make national headlines and remain front page for weeks or months straight.
