Has anyone ever used old stall mats for a backstop? I have beem offered some for free if I pick them up. Right now I am thinking of bolting them to a hanging frame. Thoughts on feasability and effectivness stopping bullets.

CNN?Depends on the thickness of the rubber, and what kind of rounds you are using.
Also what kind of media you’d have behind them
Take them, wash them and sell them on Craigslist. They would make an ok backstop, or they could make you money.Has anyone ever used old stall mats for a backstop? Shotgun pellets will bounce back & draw blood. Ask me how I know!Has anyone ever used old stall mats for a backstop? I have beem offered some for free if I pick them up. Right now I am thinking of bolting them to a hanging frame. Thoughts on feasability and effectivness stopping bullets.

Chasing splittail for 500, Alex. How do you know?
This happens a lot. Has happened to me several times. Hard rock maple with a plastic coating and big slow bullets will knock the crap outta you. Some think it's more fun when they shoot back.Friend of mine did this with a bowling pin....
That’s interesting, I’ve shot up a few bowling pins and never had anything come back. But now that I think about it, mine were mostly rifles and some .22 from about 30yd.This happens a lot. I was hit with a 44, it bounced off a huge knot in a maple tree, hit me in the gut.Hit on the pelvis with 230 ball once. I snatched my pants down to see if it went in!
Shooting at clay pigeons thrown on ground in a trough made of the mats. The shot bounce back will eat your butt up.How do you know?
If you decide to use them, hang them so they can move when hit. Stationary at the top and loose at the bottom. They will last longer if they can "give up" to the impact. Battery Oaks Range is surrounded with 600+ pound tires stacked 5 and 6 high. A 50 BMG will not defeat them. It is important that small targets be allowed to move when hit. Our metal targets have been hit 100s of thousands of times. If mounted stationary, they will eventually get pecked through. We have a steel plate hanging at 300 on chains. Nothing has ever penetrated it. Please, keep us posted on how the mats work out.
