Anybody done the Ruger barrel conversion from stock to another? Not looking for super high end target stuff, just better than stock and threaded. Anybody got any
favorite manufactures/brands. How difficult is the process?

I've got a few Faxons. Really, really like them.

Super easy swap. Remove vblock and barrel. Install new barrel. Usually slip right on. But one did take heating the receiver and gentle taps from a rubber mallet. Then torque vblock screws (28in-lbs I think?) and be happy.

Faxon has an install video on their site.

Because I know I am the weakest link when comes to making a great shot, I ordered one of the factory threaded barrels. Took about 15-20 mins to put on.

I'm very happy with my Green Mountain barrel. But....I bought it maybe 15-20 years ago, so I can't speak to their quality these days.

Recent trip to the range. 100 yards. 50 shot group. CCI Standard velocity.

Donā€™t you hate when you have a crappy day like this at the range??? Haha. Very nice group!

I picked up a Shaw non-fluted barrel several years ago. It works well for the $$.

If you're going to swap barrels, put anti-seize on the rearward "tang" of the barrel before mating it to the receiver. If necessary put the barrel in a padded vise and lightly tap the receiver onto it with a rubber mallet. Drop in a bolt and test that the extractor goes smoothly into the barrel cutout before finishing up.

I cut a factory barrel down to 16" and threaded it almost 20 years ago. It rides in a Choate folder and I'm very happy with its accuracy shooting subs.

Just drop in a Kidd 20 inch bull barrel. No fluting, no threads. Under $300. Sub MOA all day long.

I had a 10/22 with a 20" Green Mountain barrel and it was a tack driver. Converted everything over to KIDD because I wanted a threaded barrel. Be warned that the fit between a KIDD barrel and receiver is TIGHT. I actually had to put the receiver in my oven to get it to increase in size so the barrel could be installed. Had to work FAST.
