Ruger 22/45 MkIII "Worth" It?

I loved the Mk1. I had two Mk3s and sold them. Finicky shooters. But as you can see a lot of people love them. I will say, when they did shoot, they shot very, very well.

In hindsight I didn't know if it was the guns or the ammo, but I didn't have the time or patience to figure it out..
Appreciate it. Have a wide variety of ammo loads, will have to try them out and see if it has preferences. As much as anything it's fun to tune these (for me). So don't mind. Price new was same as what I see used on GB, so also figured risk was pretty minimal for what hopefully will turn out to be an accurate, reliable little 22 pistol.

Believe I should have read a bit more before my last post... sounds like Bushing, Trigger and Sear and roll with the stock trigger is the way to go. I'm good with it. Those will come from VQ.

Was looking at Tandemkross as well, they have the LCI (VQ doesn't seem too currently). Wondering if anyone has done TD's Kanewolk slingshot mod though? Would like to add that unless it's troublesome. Don't love the pull then release on the bolt. Seems like with the Target bushing and slingshot charging it'll be a more fun gun to run with mag changes.

If I'm fixing to do something foolish, please let me know. Otherwise I have some ordering to do!

Oh yea, need a RDS for the Ruger Rail now too...

Go ahead and snag that bushing, trigger and sear...get the trigger too if you can swing it since it will have adjustment for creep and overtravel.

The LCI delete is cool. I've done the slingshot mod on all of mine. It's not a huge deal but I suspect you'll want it eventually as I find it annoying to have to pull back on the bolt and then press down on the catch. By the way, if you just push down on the catch it'll release the bolt without having to pull it back. However, it'll wear the catch over time which is something you don't want.

You're not doing anything foolish. It's fun and worth the trouble because those mods will transform that humble Ruger into one heck of a fun gun to shoot. The trigger and sear combo will be a massive improvement.

Thanks for the thoughts. With the slingshot mod, did you just remove the ball detent and spring and let the gravity drop the lock? Or did you add the VQ/TD part that replaces the release (which I think has a spring to assist it down?) I'm thinking I'll try just removing the spring and ball to start and see if I get reliable drop that way. As far as the trigger, I can swing it, will give it some more thought. I just wonder if I'm a good enough shooter to benefit from it or even notice. I shoot a Shield 9mm OG model and that trigger doesn't bother me, so I'm probably just ignorant as to how good it can get.

Actually going to hold off the LCI delete. partly because of horror stories of that pin, and partly because a post by a knowlegeable guy on RugerForums, that the issue is really more the poor factory extractor. Wanted to upgrade that part as well anyway, so will add that first and see if I get FTEs.

Thanks again for the thoughts.

You'll need the spring and detent on the catch in order to get it to release consistently. Gravity usually is not enough to make it work. The trigger itself is less important than the sear, so I would prioritize the sear and hammer bushing above the rest if it were up to me.

A strong magnet will usually get that pin out of there. I've got my merit badge from pin removals, so to speak. The factory extractor isn't get. If you keep that chamber in good shape it should run with the LCI in it.

Sounds like a plan. Appreciate it.

Anyone else need/want a VQ accurizing kit for the MkIII? They have them on clearance for $75, buy 4 and they're as low as $60 each if anyone wants a quick group buy.
