OK help me walk through this idea and make sure I'm not missing any legal NFA niceties.......

If I were to take a Nordic Components AR-22 Chassis for a Ruger 10/22 and install a blade brace instead of a traditional AR stock, I could then drop a Charger pistol into said stock/chassis and legally have a pistol, correct?

Further, Since the chassis itself is not the firearm and the receiver drops into the chassis, I could technically swap back and forth between a rifle in the chassis (with appropriate stock) and a pistol in the chassis (with appropriate brace) as long as the pistol does not reside in the chassis when it has a stock installed.

That ^ is the part I'm fuzzy about.

Thoughts??

You familiar with the Thompson Center ruling?

It pretty much describes your situation. You have the components to have a full length rifle and a pistol. Switching back and forth isn't an issue...as long as you never have the stock and short barrel installed at the same time.

Read this: ATF Ruling 2011-4 (only ~3.5 pages)

So reading that the only pitfall I could see is if I were to have a 10/22 rifle receiver as the base. As long as it is a Charger receiver, originally assembled as a pistol, I'm golden.

You wouldn't want to start with a rifle...correct. Otherwise you'd end up with a "weapon made from a rifle"...which even though it looks like a pistol, it's considered an SBR.

Yep. That's how I read it. Well now I suppose I need to secure a Charger or Charger receiver again.....lol

I've got a takedown Charger that I'm building. Going to use the Cooper buffer tube adapter and a blade brace. I may add a folding adapter for the brace later on.

It'll look like this but with a folding brace when I'm done. Is there any legal reason not to do it this way?
