Ruger LC Carbine

Pros: Looks good
Cons: Everything else

I feel like this could have been a good HD gun candidate... if 5.7 was a lot cheaper and it was a braced pistol rather than a rifle.

IF ammo was not a factor … a Ruger 5.7 pistol and LC Carbine as a pair since they share mags would be interesting … but I can’t get past the ammo thing.

What’s the point of suppressing 5.7?

It drops it down below 140dB which is considered to be where hearing protection is optional. A Thunder Beast 22 Take Down on a PS90 carbine (16” barrel not SBR or pistol) read an average of 135dB which a good part of it was the sonic crack and not at the shooter’s ear.

For that price, I’d go with an AR57 upper or a Keltec P50…so you could at least get the increased capacity.

I think the point of asking about suppressing the 5.7 is that you end up with a 40gr sub-sonic projectile. Why not shoot a .22?

Who said anything about subs? I don’t shoot subs in my 5.56 ARs, and they’ll all suppressed. (Except one, a 7.5” with a riot brake, but it’s sole purpose is to rattle teeth fillings)

@NCFubar reply made sense, but yea with all the time spent making sure you don’t get the SS crack it seemed like a pointless exercise. But makes sense in general I guess. Never gonna be move quiet regardless.

In all seriousness…have you ever shot suppressed supersonic ammo?

I have a 10.5” 5.56 SBR that’s about as pleasant a rifle as you could ask for, and it’s fed 100% supersonic ammo. I still wear ear pro, usually just some foam plugs, regardless of which side of the 140dB line it falls on. But I no longer double up for the supersonic calibers.

Admittedly I haven't shot suppressed supers or subs. Hope too in the not too distant future, though I'll probably start with 22's and add a 300 BLK/9MM can after that.

Fair enough. You’ll see the light one day. 😎😁

If you get bored, this is a pretty good read:

If we were closer, I’d take you out and show you the “why”. But I bet somebody here is close enough to handle that assignment.

Looking at the spec sheet, I think it’s roughly the same length as my AR-57 pistol…but I have 51 rounds. 😎 (haven’t measured it after swapping the upper to a brace-equipped lower)

Another thread reminded me I hadn’t taken a pic of my two 5.7s after swapping optics, so here they are.

Hmm, how does one compare. Total avail muzzle energy of 30 5.56 vs 51 5.7?

5.56 wins, no contest. It’s ~5x the energy per round.

Yea, no idea why I had roughly 1/2 the energy at 2x the rounds in my head, but completely incorrect obviously.

Still, 51 rounds…

And if I use my guts-removed 40rd PMag, I don’t even leave any brass. It’s the ultimate drive-by weapon. 🤣🤣🤣

I often carry the AR-57 with me in the truck, with three extra mags. 201 rounds of blue-tipped goodness.

Doesn’t that AR57 dump spent casing out the magwell? I can see a little bag Velcro’d or such to that mag shell you have there so no more policing brass.

Yep.

As I mentioned above, I do have a 40rd PMag with the guts removed I can use.

Did those uppers come from here:

"WE HAVE TEMPORARILY CEASED PRODUCTION DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES"

I'd love the pistol/carbine combo if it wasn't for the ammo cost. That looks to have more in common with the KT CMR30 than the Sub2k. The only thing I don't like about it is the folding stock, I would much prefer a telestock like the CMR, reduces stored width by more than half.

No. They may be similar, but they’re from Panzer. There’s a thread on ARF in the PSA Industry Forum.

ETA: corrected/clarified answer below

Correcting my previous reply. My upper did come from 57Center. I was mixed up with the discussion on ARF, where PSA has similar uppers (from Panzer) listed for sale.

You can ask the same thing about 5.56, or even 22mag. People do it all the time. It will still be loud, just not as much.

Tactically, without being able to hear the muzzle report the target cannot discern the direction of the source of the shot from the supersonic crack. At least that's what I've read, have not tested that personally. :)
