Thinking of getting a pcc looking at the Ruger pcc so what’s the good or bad with them. Probably going to do some competition matches with them. Get one and modify it or just build one from scratch?

Really like mine, accurate, take down is easy. Straight blowback action, I put a TK red spring in it. I love it in the MagPul Backpacker stock but that’s not really a match stock.

Really like mine. Bought it used from a forum member. It came with a flash hider. I added a streamlight and TC fiber optic front and rear sights. The only issue I've had is the bolt handle loosens up after about 100 rounds and when it is taken apart for cleaning various pins fall out of the trigger group and bolt. Be careful when you do so not to lose the small bits.

You remind me of the only issue I forgot about. The stock bolt hold… slap the stock and it will release and close. I called Ruger on it and they said it was normal. And you have to keep it open for the take down, so it might chamber a round if you aren’t paying attention.

I use mine as our main house gun and in rifle matches (3gun rules with paper out to 50 yards and steel out to 100).

I’ve made the following changes:
-3D printed magwell
-3D printed mag release (The mag release position stinks but a larger button helps a lot)
-Red dot mounted to the barrel (I had zero shift issue at a match with it on the receiver)
-Catalyst arms hardpoint mount for a light and QD cup
-QD cup mounted on one of the spacers

I just tried the magpul backpacker stock but was disappointed for my purposes.

Zero reliability issues so far. 15 yard zero makes impact less than 2” high at 50 and less than 2” low at 100.

If I was acquiring one just for competition, I'd build one on an AR platform even just for the mag release and safety positions. However, the Ruger has been extremely reliable.

If you prefer to build on an AR platform instead here is a good resource:
He also has a youtube channel that goes into some of his testing.

Thanks. I came across him on another forum and started looking at his stuff. I thinking ar style now.

I love mine (in spite of all the experts' opinions about PCCs). Red dot zeroed to 50yds, and an MCARBO full enhancement kit (replaces the plastic wear parts). I think the mods are worth the money, especially if you're going to run it hard, but ymmv.

Bought one a few years back, solid design though heavy for what it is. No meal complaints aside from weight.

If I had to do it again, I'd either SBR or buy the pistol variant and train SAS sling shooting.

I've owned and shot a few matches with the traditional and the AR stocked one. I didn't love the recoil impulse. Preferred the AR9.

We have a few PCCs in the house. I couldn’t resist the PC9 when Ruger re introduced (it about 5 years ago) I picked up the “original”
I run it exclusively with the Glock pattern magwell insert - works well with OEM and Magpul Glock mags
It is a “full size” carbine , a tad on the porky side. I’ve done nothing to it except mount a red dot. It is the most accurate of any of our PCCs. I will sometimes use it for local rifle matches. It is very reliable and not a picky eater when it comes to ammo
What I don’t like about mine is the short basic handguard.
