looking at maybe purchasing an old Ruger Security Six. Preference to 4" blued finish. Was wondering if anyone could tell me pros and cons of these. Also, parts breakage issues at all? Have just started watching gunbroker auctions. Thanks.

A very strong and well made revolver. If you can find one that you like, buy it. You won't be sorry. I've always thought the Six series was the best revolvers Ruger has ever made.

My wife has a service six, I bought her 30 years ago as her first firearm, its seen a couple of thousand rounds and still going strong, and I second that the six series were Ruger s best.

Strong and reliable......get one if you can find one. I have had a Police Service Six for around 20 years and would never trade it.

Do buy one if you find it. I had one I bought from an elderly lady whose husband owned it. After he passed she wanted to sell it. Got it for $125 in the late 90's.

I wish I still had it. Great shooting, well built revolver

What are you waiting for..........Security-Speed-Service Sixes are bout the best ever made by anyone, IME.

I am going to echo what has been said already. The Ruger "Six" series revolvers are rock solid in all material respects. Doesn't hurt that some look quite nice too.

Echo the other sentiments on here: They are great revolvers. I own one and love it. I've found you can find accessories for them (speedloaders, grips, etc) for good deals due to the gun not being made anymore.
It seems like the prices have started to creep up in the last few years.

found me a stainless security six a little less than a year ago for $400

4-inch barrel made in 1976 with the inscription "Made in the 200th year of American Liberty" on the side.

Like everyone else here has said, DO IT!

The one I own is a beauty. 151 serial number. Pre warning roll mark crap. Tight as can be. I rarely hear of part breakage on these revolvers. Grips are easily found. Most K frame holsters fit it well.

I did find one. 4" blued. Target grips. Red ramp front site with rear white outline. I love it! I sold all, except for one, of my other .38 and .357 revolvers because this is my favorite and I would never shoot the others anymore. The one I kept is my S&W 442 that I carry. The Security Six is amazing. Now I need one in stainless!
