There aren't any +capacity base plates or extensions currently made for the Ruger SR9. Galloway Precision, once upon a time made a +2 or +3 I believe but they stopped selling them.

A little Google Fu turns up good results with the Arredondo +5 made for the M&P. I picked one of those up, it arrived today and I was able to modify and install it in about 10 mins. So far so good, hand cycles and feeds fine. Going to try to shoot it this weekend if I can.

But that got me thinking about other base plates and whether they would work. It stands to reason that other M&P baseplates should, with the same minor fitting also work.

So with that I have a +5 Hyve on the way. I've been very happy with the Hyve baseplates on my Shield mags. Hopefully this one works for the SR9. The aluminum Hyve feels more substantial than the nylon Arredondo.

Will update once I've got it installed and am able to do a little testing.

You know that we like pictures. HYVE makes good stuff.

Yeah I looked at those but went with Hyve based on cost and prior experience. Knowing I will likely have to modify it I wanted to go with the least expensive option in case it doesn't work.

Arredondo on the left, Hyve on the right.

Very minimal fitting required on both. In fact on the Hyve it amounted to adjusting the hook on top of the provided spring to fit the Ruger follower. On the Arredondo it required filing off the nipple on the floor plate and smoothing off a ridge where magazine meets extension. Both hand cycle just fine. Going to try to get to the range tomorrow.

Range report:

Both mags ran like tops. No failures to feed of any sort. I ran multiple magazines of ball and assorted JHP through them. No issues to report in cycling. I ran them in a full-size SR9 and two SR9Cs. Double tap drills, Bill drills, Mozambiques. I ran them hard.....

Two minor issues arose.

On the Hyve, after the initial loading of 22 rounds I was only able to get 20 in on subsequent loadings. Something is binding internally. Thinking the follower is catching on the extension lip. Will have to tear it back down and investigate.

On the Arredondo I had one failure to activate the slide lock. That was one time on one of two SR9Cs, it did not happen on the SR9 full size or the other C. Writing that off as a fluke for now.

Overall I'm very happy with the Arredondo and will probably pick up a couple more. I'll play with the Hyve some more in the coming weeks to see if I can get it back to 22 round capacity.

Ordered two more Arredondo today.

Little cut and shut and you could be in business.....
