This is a stainless J-Frame 5 shot 9MM revolver that has had very little use. Has anyone on this forum owned one, and any idea of current value? I think S&W told me years ago that it was a 1997 manufacture.

Also looking for opinions on options for selling it: privately, taking it to a local shop, or dealing with online like Guns.com. Thanks!

Others on here can tell you far more than i can, but I'll say the 9mm pre lock is fairly sought after by some. Yours looks to be in great condition. If you become a paying member there's an appraisal section that will get you alot of answers. Best of luck with that beauty.

I took the suggestion and upgraded to a paid membership. I was a member of a different firearms forum in another part of the country for years, so I guess I should have started as a paid member….

I paid $450 for one probably 10 years ago and sold it for $650 a couple years later after not shooting it. I really don't keep up much on S&W values but I'd say its worth north of $1000 at this point. If I saw one for under $1000, I'd probably buy it without much thought.

FWIW gunbroker can be searched for sold items. This can be helpful to get a sense of value. For unusual firearm like this I’d be reluctant to consign it. My move would be to either hold onto it for good or go to gunbroker and try to get as much $$ as possible. the costs w gunbroker include their fee and shipping. I’ve sold a few things on there and not had problems although I require the buyer to either have good feedback or they need to have a phone # and an FFL that will accept the firearm. Last transaction I had the seller was a world class hunter in Alabama. Way cool guy.

pre-lock S&W revolvers continue to go up in value. I’m never selling mine they’re for my kids.

update. This gun looks rare. 1 sold in may on GB for $906 + $20 shipping

I owned one, and here are a few thoughts: You got the better version as a -1, the no dash had problems. Ruger moon clips are much better than the S&W clips, IMO. (I had a 9mm SP101 at the same time). Your gun will not fit some J frame kydex holsters, because the circumference of the barrel is greater than in the .38 Special guns for which they are designed. I sold mine (and the Ruger) because after chrono testing, I could not determine any increased functional value over the .38. That may be different now, with current ammo prices. I think it is a valuable gun to some people, but would not hazzard a guess in today's market. Congrats, it was a nice find!
