I got the newsflash today but I don't really see much news here other than the free float M-Lok handguard?
 
Mid gas instead of carbine, different barrel twist (1/8). I think it's otherwise the same rifle.

Don't most S&W have a 1/8 twist barrel. My old one did. I remember the days of "The Chart" where that was one of the strikes against S&W along with 4140 barrel steel that kept it from being considered decent to the author of "The Chart"

I thought they were 1/9? I looked at S&W's site and I don't think it actually says what the Sport II is.
 
some of the early sport 1 models were 1:8, then they moved to 1:9.
 
The early Sport models with 1:8 twist had 5R barrels. Lots of them got bought on the cheap to get those barrels.
