So I enjoy shooting a revolver. I carry a glock, but enjoy the wheel gun shooting too. I am looking for a. 44 mag. I keep seeing this performance center revolver I like, but the price is $1k. I also like the Ruger Redhawk in a 2"/3" bbl. I've had a. 454 casull in the Alaskan and liked it. This will be a cartu gun occasionally, probably wear some nice badger grips. Prefer bead blasted finish.

I saw the S&W combat magnum. What's the dealio with this pistol? Anyone own one?

I may go back to an Alaskan. The 629 with badger grips is the look I am wanting too.

If you don't mind me asking, why did you part withe Alaskan? I've always wanted to get one and have a 45ACP conversion done on the cylinder.

I had a buddy who had the 2 and 5/8" Performance Center S&W in 44 Mag. I don't think you'd regret it. A beautiful gun. If they made it in 45 Colt/ACP I'd be all over it.

Because I was an idiot. Actually, finances required thinning the herd. Honestly, didn't shoot it alot. But it's like a savings acct you can shoot.... I'm sure you understand. :)

Dan Wesson will get you the biggest bang per buck, and they aren't making any more of them:

You know, I don't know much about Dan Wesson. I know lots of you guys talk them up and their automatics seem to bring a premium. I've never owned one. Thats a good shooter grade deal there. You could hunt with it too.

Which Smith are you asking about? L framed Model 69 .44 Mag or the real Combat Magnum which is a K framed adjustable sighted .357? I'll take a Smith over the Ruger Alaskan unless you want a boat anchor. 34.5 oz vs. 44 oz, 5 vs 6 shot? New revolvers are going to cost more then an auto.

CD

was looking at the 69. That Alaskan was a bit heavy :)

5" 629...

629 and Model 66-8 (Ha, looks like the 69. Best that I could do)

...and both are leaning up against a J Frame box, so this is sort of "ate up."

I prefer the 2 finger Badger Grips in a 2.75" K Frame.

:) You remember the line in Tombstone…. Doc Holliday…. "Should I like him or hate him? " HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHA. That is some sweet hardware.

David Gates the (relatively) new Badger Grips owner is a good dude. I have a pile of Badger Grips. Some made back in the day by Jim Badger, a lot by David. I've met him personally and seen his shop. The grips have a fantastic shape. My only request would be checkered or rougher finish grips. David sold me a couple unfinished. I finished them myself with just Tung Oil (like the last one above. May have added it since you quoted my post).

damnit. there is another set. ugh. No one likes a show off. HAHAHAHAHA.

Actually, its nice not surfing Google to see what they look like :)

Yeah, @Prosecutor 's just showin' off...again! :p

His philosophy is understandable; If'n ya got it, flaunt it!!

My EDC :)))

I need to change out the Pachmayrs. While Coco Bolo or Rosewood would look awesome, I prefer Hogue rubber for shootin' comfort.

I may need to get a picatinny & vertical foregrip, too!

Nice. 29 Silhouette?

Nice. 29 Silhouette?

Yes 29; unfamiliar with Silhouette designation (newish acquistion). It sports a 10-3/8" bbl and has not only target rear, but 4-stepped adj front sights.

I will likely put a scope on it to aid my aging eyes... Anything past 50 yds unaided is pretty much shooting at dryer lint, visually speaking.

EDIT: Ah - getting it slowly. For Silhouette shooting @ 25/50/75/ & 100 yds? Hence the 4-stepped front sight.

Much thanks. Shooter's Bible? Mine has the 3-ltr prefix. Planned to look up approx date of mfg, but life & pressing projects intervened.

EDIT II, The SEQUEL: Sorry for the thread hijack, Sneaky!

Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson. Post or PM the serial number if you want. I'll look it up. Some Silhouettes had N prefix, others three letter.

Windini -> The 460 can shoot 454 and 45LC, it also shoots 45S&W(Schofield) AND if you really want to you can have the cylinder cut for moon clips and shoot 45ACP....got it all covered with one gun!!! But, 44mag is still one of my favorites, hard to beat it.
Friday -> Almost every one of those revolvers comes with wooden grips too....we call them "display" grips, you can use them, but after a while they get slippery with sweat (you do have to hang on to shoot these), the hogue goodyears you can shoot all of them 100 rounds at a sitting with no issues.

Greg, unfortunately all of the 460's (like the 500's) are all 5 shot!! But it works!

Just picked up the Ruger Redhawk back packer talo, this is the 2,75 inch barrel and round butt, will eventually post pics in the revolver thread with the 3 inch GP 100 in 44 special I also purchased. Little off thread, but any one know of a source for grips for a round butt Redhawk, since it isn't common can't find any after market grips for it

I'm having the same problem with my 4" 45LC/ACP Redhawk. The Pachmayrs fit, but are a little bigger than I want. I'd be happy to let you try mine before you buy. Message me.

A Redhawk with 4" barrel may fill the vacant place that a now long gone 629 Mountain Gun from a long time ago left....

IMG_20171208_140828.jpg here's the three inch GP 100 in 44 special love the UN fluted cylinder, wish they'd make this in 44 mag
