This was on the rail to our kitchen porch around this time last year. I almost put my hand down on it before I saw it. Yeah it woulda sucked.

Haven't seen any this year.

Be careful. I hear they are quite painful and some people can have really severe reactions to their venom.

I had a run in with one when I was a kid. I’ll not do that again.

They'll turn up on any plant or tree really, but we got into them in the corn. They essentially give you extreme hives for a few days, along with other systemic goodies like pink eye, asthma attacks, migraines, etc. Couple boys I went to school with had pretty severe allergic reactions and ended up hospitalized.

I got stung with one of these right behind the ankle as a kid. It hurt for a solid 4 days. Only thing worse was the Japanese hornet.
