I’m trying to get a holster/rig for a beretta 92fs for shooting IDPA and trying to figure out what all the different designations are for the equipment is impossible it’s more complicated than the S&w number system - does anyone know the quick and dirty for safariland holsters or does anyone have a good recommendation for gear I only intend to have this set up for my beretta but any help would be appreciated

IDPA is fine with a Comp Tac or Bladetech. I shot many matches with a Comp Tac and it was perfectly fine. I think you can AIWB now too.

Duty, 2/3 gun would be ideal for a more expensive holster with good locking features.

I have a couple Safariland’s that just have the ALS w/o hood and have been pleased. Usually Amazon or Midway will have a deal.

My personal favorite for my full size with optic is a OWB ANR. The DSG Arms are nice too and go on sale often.

If you’re strictly doing IDPA or USPSA I like comptac. Check out the Mike Stoeger pro shop, he has compete setup packages and good prices.

2/3 gun, I like Safariland. I’m no help with the Safariland part numbers, it took me awhile to figure out what I needed for my G34. Not simple.

If I could only have one I’d get the safariland so you can do it all. It may be hard to conceal for IDPA I guess, but I don’t shoot that.

As long as it’s covered with your arms outstretched to either side it’s all good. We don’t care how bad it prints. Some guys yank a tee shirt down over before the shot timer goes off.

I ended up getting one with the thumb doodle, hood, and red dot cover that I removed.

I just don’t use the red dot cover and only use the hood when it makes sense. Maybe between stages or if I’m running. I believe that was advice from a forum member. Just get the loaded model and don’t use what you don’t need. You may need it down the road.

I have been a Safariland user since the mid 80s and I can't figure out the "code". I always walk my current need through the Holster Finder they offer on thier website, and copy the final item number it generates, and then look for that and always DOUBLE CONFIRM the number matches when ordering from Ebay, CopsPlus, Optics Planet, etc.

Most recently I needed an ALS concealment holster for a GEN 5 Glock G23 (realizing the G23 is wider and does NOT fit the same as a G19 as all generations previously) in black, right hand draw, and using the TLR7 light.

The PART NUMBER it kicked out was 7378-282527-411.

That holster is now on order from Safariland, but I usually use the sites/businesses I mentioned in the first paragraph. The ONLY reason I ordered from the company this time is that real Gen 5 G23 holsters are not out there in any numbers, at least that I have found.

Big fan of Safariland. I have one for my primary and would absolutely choose it again regardless of price.
I had the same trouble and I called customer service and spoke to a live American person in customer service that listened to what I wanted and offered suggestions based on my needs.

I'm such a fan I changed out every single holster in my house for Safariland ALS holsters, on my and my wife's handguns that remotely might see defensive use or carry. The ONLY exceptions were: I have NO holster for a Taurus TX 22 suppressed, and I did have a IWB holster for a G43 but I just sold the G43.

That is all I wear for carrying as it keeps the same movements as my duty holster and I like the immediate Level II I get as soon as it seats back in the holster. I think some folks don't think about quick re holstering as being important in some situations, given how popular some holsters that collapse are, and I really rolled my eyes at the "trigger guard only" holsters were a few years ago that TIED to a belt loop or the belt that came out of the waist band when drawn. Actually had an officer who wanted to qualify with one. He spent a LOT of time on the Internet gun forums and Reddit and took "cool" into his decision making matrix...

It’s really good about showing literally every holster that could possibly fit your gun but they all look the same
Yes-no reason to look for a holster that's not available in my gun/light/red dot? combination so I start with the ones that do fit. They don't look alike to me but I know enough about the product line to know one or two models (637_ or 737_) that is going to be what I'm after. If it doesn't work for you I can respect that but it was my best effort in posting a quick way of helping...don't want to call it a "hack" (I hate that word anyway) as it's not a "hack" it's the way the company intends the customer to shop for holsters.

You need to put this all in red text and nail it to the front door of the forum

Lol this is only for the 92fs, m9, etc... I didn't include all of the colors offered either, so that's why I included the links.

I am a tiny pawn in this forum. My word has no authoritaaaa.
