So I got myself a Saiga sporter in 7.62x39. I want to get it converted into a traditional layout. Has anyone here done this or had this done. I was thinking about getting one of the kits from CSS and having it done professionally by a smith but I don't know of any around the Triad area. I also want to get the barrel threaded and I've been told that requires getting the front sight pressed off.

I've not done it but I've read a few guides, nothing looks super hard.

I've done the back end conversion with CSS parts and a texas double-hook trigger. That didn't require any special tools or skills, just a little patience and a sharp file. Changing out the hand guard and threading the barrel would require special tools. I liked it just fine with the Saiga style front end.

I have done a couple shottys, not too bad on the rear end but most front end works take some special tools. @digitalpaladin10 on here is in kernersville and does great work and is reasonable. Pm him or PM me and I can give you his number if you want it...

Im talking with digitalpaladin. Im going to need a smith for the front sight threading.
