Salisbury Gun Show 9/29-9/30

On my To Do list for tomorrow.

After you stop by Point Blank for "Coffee and Cans", right? :D
That's all I need...start a can collection.

Does anybody make threaded barrels for 3rd generation Smith semi's?

@Butter
My impression was that it was slow. I overheard some vendors who didn't sound overwhelmed with their business thru late Saturday afternoon. I, on the other hand, found some interesting goodies. One vendor worked with me to make a deal (and it happened). Another wouldn't even discuss the prices even though I was prepared to pay cash for two guns.

YMMV

That was my impression, too. I talked with one vendor for a while and he looked at my trade, but wouldnt do it because it was slow and he needed cash.
The guy from Carthage Firearms and I traded and made each other happy.
I would liked to have known you were there, I woulda said hey. If you were there between 1230 and 300, you couldnt miss me. I was wearing a bright orange Tennesssee Vols t shirt lol.

any of yall ever taken a gun to a show to try to trade for another gun etc?

Im wondering if it'd be worth my time to roll down there with this Mossberg I am wanting to sell/trade for another bolt action

Still a slightly larger show then the disappointment at Concord, in my opinion. Offloaded a rifle, found some DP-28 magazine bags for a build I'm working on and scored some Malaysian .308 for my HK and CETME. Really like this show. Only been disappointed by it once in the past few years.

It's hit or miss, really, finding an individual to buy whatever you have. Odds can go up or down depending on what it is. Ive generally had good luck.
Ive sold a Smith and a CZ before Ive even walked in the doors and left with the same Sig and HK I went in with bedore.
I generally dont trade with dealers...most try to lowball you cuz they need room to resale for a profit.

I'm sorry too @draco88. Yes, I got there a tick after 2 and wandered around (drooling and trying to negotiate) until after 4. I'm not running a gun business so maybe I don't understand the dynamics. I found a vendor with some nice guns, two of which I wanted to buy. I asked whether he had any room to discuss the prices and he let me know absolutely not. I said I'd think about it but probably wouldn't go ahead at those prices. He said, "Well, I'll be here tomorrow". I replied that I'd driven nearly an hour one way and wasn't likely to do it again Sunday. His answer was that he'd driven 4 hours to attend the show.

So, wouldn't you think that a seller with a cash buyer in front of him, a seller who probably hadn't done much business yet (given his prices and the traffic in the show), who had invested a lot of time and money in participating in the show...would at least TRY to make a deal? Who knows, maybe $25 might have made the deal happen.

Wandering around, we saw a guy with a metal briefcase. Taped to it was a sheet of paper indicating he had 3 guns for sale and a list of them. On the list was one that would interest me so we stopped him and asked for a list. He pulled out the pistol and explained it was some kind of test dummy for a gunsmith class. My friend mentioned it looked like it had been dragged down the freeway. His asking price was at least 4 times what I'd ever pay. My friend was more generous saying he didn't want it but might be willing to go up to around 35% of what he asked.

I know that guy. He is a huge time waster. Lowballs you or tells how he found whatever you are selling cheaper elsewhere, then prices his stuff way above market. See him at every show within an hour or so of Charlotte.

I held something for him for a month, as he said he wanted it. Only to have him tell me he bought it cheaper at X store in Charlotte when he finally came to a show. Haven’t tried to do business with him since.

I didnt feel there was much to choose from for new pistols. Id say maybe half, less than half were dealers, the rest was gun show stuff.

Im still thinking about getting a CFF table for December, at the wnd of the day its only a 30 minute drive from my house

Sometimes that’s all a vendor might make on a gun sale. Unfortunately every gun show enthusiast doesn’t have a winning sales personality.

So I went today, my first time at the Salisbury show
I will look into a table at the December date.

Neat being in a gun show and having carpet!

I went with a mission and, pretty much, stuck to it - find a bolt gun that I liked and try to trade for it. Unfortunately I only saw a couple that were 223 or 308. Had someone ask about my Mossburg, I got his card (a pawn shop in Troutman), but I came home with the same rifle I went with.

That said, I did walk out with something extra, a Magpul Backpacker kit for my takedown 10/22

I agree but that might be all the vendor doesn't make if he/she ends up carting the guns four hours back home. I understand the sales abilities of many gun sellers is sorely wanting. I also understand not everybody strolling around a gun show is a serious buyer. In this case, I wasn't looking for a commodity gun, playing one vendor against another to get the lowest price. These were two old and used guns, both on my "list". Given the slow traffic, this seller had all the time in the world to engage me and find out what kinda buyer I am and what kind of customer I could possibly become.

I met a seller in a show and bought 8 guns from him in the following 11 months. I met another and bought 4 from him in the following 2 1/2 months. The one fellow I did make a deal with yesterday took interest in my future business and asked me to email him a list of what I'm looking for. All three of these sellers have taken a longer term approach to making money on me. Too bad the other guy didn't have the same view. Maybe I'll see him with the same guns at the next show...although he probably didn't do well enough to bother returning and I may have crossed them off the list by then. I wonder what he will blame the poor results on. He's probably loading those two guns in the truck as I write this. :(

Did not make this one or the competing show in Morganton...NC Gun Collector's show....

Wonder if the two shows had an effect on each other...

I know when they are 'together' it is a stronger show.... My 'preference' is the NCGC show, as the "stuff" is not filling the tables....
like others IF i wanted to go to flea market, I'd go to webb road, or Lex flea mkt.

Definitely had an effect on each other.

Mentioning flea market items - one table was like that: baseball cards, dvds, comics...get that crap somewhere else, please.

The wife and I went Sunday and found it to be a good show as always. I missed seeing @cubrock ! Maybe next show. Went looking for a Winchester #62
or a Remington #12 pump 22lr. A few nice ones but a little to much $$$ for me. Saw a fair condition Stevens galley gun I should have bought.
