I love Sardines. I grew up eating them with my Grandfathers and Dad for lunch outdoors. Saltines, apple cider vinegar and coke's. Man, I never outgrew it. We used to be able to get really good "deens" from almost any store, but now it seems that we are so limited in choices. I like them packed in olive oil. Except for King Oscar and Bumble Bee Wild Caught the other options leave a lot to be desired .Brunswick was really good but I think that they have closed...they were the last cannery in North America. I can get some damn good "deens" on the internet but, damn...used to be a staple in any and every country store.

Sardines with a dash of vinegar and a saltine...man, that brings back memories. Haven't had them in years.

Yep, sardines with a dash of vinegar, served up on a saltine with a thin slice of onion.

Darn if that don't bring some memories back. :)

i love sardines, sorta like eating pu**y, once you're past the smell you got it licked, lol

MLS2. Great thread. Many great memories of picnic like lunches while working with my Dad on his Toms Peanut truck. Back in the sixties. Sardines (packed in oil) drain oil, add vinager. Saltines, potted meat (yeah, I've read the ingredients) Vienna Sausage and Coke in the little bottles!!
You da man.

Never all that big on Sardines, but did eat my share while fishing. Now if we gonna talk Vienna Sausage I can hold my own. I discovered the Chicken style and now that's all I'll eat. Regular saltine crackers and a bottle of water..... God's little 5 minute snack pack....

Potted meat & Vienna Sausages??

Oh yummy!!

Grew up on those as well and I guess they didn't hurt me cause I'm still here. :D

I liked to slice the viennas and fry them...
Then make a sammich with bread, Duke's, & mustard (French's btw, if we're talking yellow).

Sardines with my dad in the cab of the train he drove. Frackers and LeSueur early peas out of the can. That was living...

This guy is amazing. Now he is a sardine guy and he is from NC. Plenty of info...history...videos...etc. He rates many, many brands of "dines". http://mouth-full-of-sardines.blogspot.com/ By the way, the Aberdeen NC Sardine Festival is coming up soon, it's a blast. Good people and good times.
Sardine Festival. Hilarious, it's like that Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs movie.
