3. Ladders aren't cheap. Extension ladders run in the hundreds of dollars now. So borrow one if you can. Do not stop on the interstate to get a ladder that has fallen off a truck. Pretty sure that's the #1 reason for illegal immigrant death in the Carolinas (maybe drowning). It's not WORTH IT. DO NOT PLAY LADDER FROGGER in real life!
Here's all I can contribute to the thread...

If you're near Charlotte and want to borrow a ladder, I have a couple.

28' extension
12' step
8' step

:D

HA HA HA! (<<<maniacal laugh)

Let me tell you about my "as long as we're doing XXX, we might as well _____________" remodel... started in 2007...
Its how my projects usually wind up.......while ive got my tools out or this is out of the way..... I wind up taking on 2 or 3 more tasks. At least it isnt just me!

@Ikarus1 better you than me! We painted our entire house, every room including epoxying the garage floor, in 6 days before moving in 2yr ago. Wife painted all day, I worked then painted 6-11/12’ish. We both said never again!

However if you were quoted 3500 for 1200sqft, I’m double that, no way I’d pay $7k for paint.

Got to watch the paint crews, one of the locals with the painter uniforms and the name on the trucks
left the shutters in place when they painted my neighbors home different color, he was not amused.
Same with the no name guys who did the home next door, they left the shutters up when they changed the color of the house.

Lot of crews come in for paint at the store and want the cheap primer tinted to match,
they pour it into empty pails of a more expensive brand of exterior house paint.
One of my customers had cameras all over his very expensive home, the crew
was captured on video dumping the cheap paint into the pails in the garage.

that was the whole interior including the 22ft foyer, but they would've used scaffolding instead of tempting fate on the ladder as I did. The exterior would've been more but other than the back of the house its easy since I have multilevel roof to stand on. Fairly safe and easy. Never again will I have wood siding on a house

got up this morning before work, did a little staining on the washed, prepped and semi repaired deck. 2 weeks ago this deck was looking ragged and dilapidated....

Luckily my brother in law was redoing his deck so I cherry picked the old wood, flipped some of mine over and did some needed repairs.

Of course I ran out of stain since the wood was thirsty and dry and finished up this afternoon after work.

I spent around $120 which was mostly stain, bleach, vinegar, and deck screws...we breathed some more life in it (for the next owner) and make it look good in pics.

Cabot's semisolid stain is awesome but a gallon is 128oz not 116 :(

That can gets tinted to the color you select, 12 oz. of tint brings it to 128 oz. Deep base is 112 oz.

good call. Didn't even think of the tint volume.... Anyhow I have no complaints the product is excellent and the color is consistent from can to can
Yes, lot of research and testing, industry reformulated for low VOC products, you can't go wrong with the brand name coatings.

I know this is the "not firearm related" thread, but, really, all these pics and no firearms to be seen? ::shakes head:: :p

Seriously, though, I admire folks who can do this sort of thing: I'd have burned down the house or caused some other catastrophe (sort of like Stephen Maturin getting aboard ship).

Nice job on everything. You're making me feel slack. I need to restain my deck. I bought some Cabot's almost 6 months ago! One excuse after the other...

Built me a clothesline today, gotta cut that power bill. Besides, nothing can beat the smell of line hung laundry.
I have a gas clothes dryer, only $75 extra and low electric and gas bills, clothes fell great just like they came from the laundromat.

trying to beat the rain here. Its alreadt hot as an emmeffer at 10am :(

Been real funny out here in the black hills, pert near 18" of rain since may. Most they've had in near 2yrs. And hardly and hot days at all this summer, don't think we've had a weeks worth of 90* temps.

Ranchers are real happy with all the hay, so maybe beef prices will be lower.

I am done with the paint. Finally.
Mulched flowerbeds, mowed grass, weedeater was a pita to start of course.
Mulched around trees, wife planted some more flowers. Cleaned up around my outbuilding. Blew off all the sidewalks.

And the reason for all this is:

My appraisal happens at 8am. I am preparing a list of new crap as we speak AND pulling some comps for the guy. Should be a slam dunk.

a few other items to add:

New programmable tstat because I am too cheap for a NEST to go into a house we plan to sell

New wired fire alarm with battery backup because nobody wants to burn to death

I don't care how much you saved. If there is a price i can pay to escape the misery of painting it is reasonable. Would rather have my toe nails yanked off than paint....
