What tips can yal got? I plan on trying out on WMA land. I have a savage 223 that I plan on using. I know I need to get a few calls. Is there a brand or sound I should look for? Any area types I should look for to hunt? Thanks

We use a Lucky Duck, works great. If you are getting into it serious, you will have a few calls so they dont get accustomed to one call. Foxpros are really popular. I'd get NV with IR light vs red/green. Thermal is best if you can swallow the "buy once, cry once". If you choose thermal, dont get too excited about zoom. Its all pixilated and grainy unless you are buying a $10K thermal. Most shots are <100 yds anyway if you are doing your part. Hunt cutovers, edge of fields, hide good and watch your wind. They can smell ya.

There any rules on night hunting public land? I’ve got a call I’ve tried a few time around Rock Hill/Chester private land (you have to register with dnr) but never on public land.

Daytime only on WMAs, and only with a weapon legal for game that is in season. Page 71 in the handbook which can be downloaded from the DNR website.
