Scars Are Tattoos With A Story

Cant get pictures now, and they are hard to see anyway, but on my right shin I have a dent where I fell into a fishing boat at Kernersville Lake Park about 20 years ago. Leg landed straight down on a rivet/bolt thing on the bottom of the row boat. Almost 1 year to the day later I was back at the same lake, renting the same type of boat, and slipped getting in and fell on my left shin, and now I have matching dents.

Lesson: I don't do well with boats.

I've got a scar that is a tattoo on my left thumb knuckle. It left a black mark under the skin from 1973-74 when I changed rusty mufflers at Sears when I was in high school.

My right shin has a dent from a trailer hitch from a 1978 Ford F150, blue, 300 CI inline six, 4 speed trans. We were on the way to Friendship Speedway in Elkin and stopped to buy some beer. I came around the back of the truck and WHAM!!! I almost threw up. I've never walked into another hitch and I don't think I ever will. I keep an eye out for those monsters since that evening.

I've got a scar on my left index finger from a hatchet. I was splitting kindling for the fireplace and got careless. Thankfully I came down parallel to my finger and I realized what was happening so I pulled back. I only cut from the joint to the fingernail. I kept that hatchet so sharp that the skin laid back perfectly and healed with just the scar line now. My right hand also has some scars on my knuckle and pinky finger. That one is less impressive. I was cleaning the dishes and stuck my hand into a glass which then shattered. Fixed that one with superglue. My hand, not the glass.

This is the way you should describe your cars and trucks. Cool truck.

I have scar on my head. I dont remember how it got there. I was having sex with my wife and called her by her sister's name.

Let's see,150+ stitches in my forehead, holes in both elbows, scars on both knees, still have a rock in my lip, all toes on right foot scarred from being broken and bent over flat on the bottom of my foot. Yep, had a pretty big time.

I have a scar that is now hard to see in center of my forehead from when I was 4. My grandparents house was hardwood floors. Every afternoon I would run into my pawpaw's room and wave to him as he came out of the carport from work. One day I went running into his room and slipped on the area rug right inside the door, went flying through the air and hit the corner of the wooden footboard of the bed. 14 stitches.

Motocross Race at 15 y.o. .. sideswipped and fell over onto the chain of the next guy beside me... Right through the Cog.... The Index and Ring finger were hurt... but they look somewhat normal.... This is the best it looks after 2 days in the hospital and 2 Surgeries....

Girls were like... Ewwww.... (Then later on.. they were like AHHHHHHHH!!!)

Lmao. I have a rock in my lower lip too. You can’t see the scar with my goatee but I fell off some bleachers when I was about 8 and face planted. It was winter and my hands were in my pockets. Tooth came through my lip and a little pebble went back in. They sewed it up and said the lump was just scar tissue.

Found out in an X-ray many years later it wasn’t.

I have a 2" scar at the top of my left arm in the exact same place as my grandma had and have no idea where it came from. 15448353085335910758887723267920.jpg

Left hand pointer finger, picked up a beer bottle that had been in a fire at one time. When I picked it up it exploded in my hand and cut it to the bone. I took my other hand and rubbed the bone back and forth.

I have multiple scars on my right shoulder from 2 surgeries from pretending to be a sea turtle when my daughter was on a field trip to the beach in the 4th grade.

And I have done so many stupid things over the years and have so many scars I wouldn’t know where to begin. Some from climbing fences with that tornado twist at the top as a kid to getting mauled by a tree and everything in between.

My only big scar is pretty mundane. The decision to play in a company tennis tournament at an advanced age (late 30s) left me with an 8- inch scar down the back of my leg (and 10 weeks in a cast) due to a ruptured Achilles tendon.

When I was 9 years old I was riding my huffy bike, with a banana seat down the road.
There was a large pothole.
I decided to jump the pothole, BMX style, because it would look super cool.
I had zero BMX experience, and like I said this bike had a banana seat.
So I pop a wheelie, and Plop! My front wheel slams down into the pothole, brining my bike to a complete stop, and wrenched the handlebars 90 degrees to the right.
Physics, being the whimsical sprite that it is, threw me forward, into the exposed metal pipe that was the end of my handlebars.
The end went thru the skin pretty far...
I threw up, and an elderly couple tried to help me, but I walked home.
For the next 20 odd years I had a perfect circular scar on my stomach at the impact spot...

Four that stick out.

Scar in my right eye brow and right side of my upper lip. Luckily they aren't connected today. The original wound was. It was cold, I was about 5 and learned a valuable and painful lesson about running in a gravel lot with your hands in your pockets.

Roughly 2 inch scar in left upper arm from a dispute I had with a crackhead over the rights to my wallet. I left with a small knife wound. When I left he was still unconscious. Victim selection fail....

Cut and burn scar on my left pinky. I was getting ready for a weekend trip and reached into a backpack and found a partially unsheathed knife. It bit me. To the bone.... My pyro best friend suggested cauterizing it. We did. It sucked.

Roughly 7 inch scar from my lumbar to thoracic spine. Had to be put back together like Humpty Dumpty after a great fall. 2 rods, seven screws and cadaver bone holding me together.....

For those of you old enough to remember Brasso and Silvo, do not let the kids/grand-kids stick a finger in the can! It will get stuck on a sharp edge and leave a scar--even after 50+ years....don't ask me how I know....

I was laughing hard till I got to the last one...oh, man.

I had a teacher in high school that had a middle finger that was all scarred up from getting it hung in a chain basketball net. He loved to tell the story because the girl he was dating at the time name was Annette. Everyone asked him what happened and he'd tell em it got hung in a net.

Ahhh. This reminds me of one I forgot....

1" x 2" patch of road rash on my elbow.

Almost the exact scenario above but when my front wheel dropped into the pothole I went completely over the handlebars onto the pavement.

I've got scars on my head from- taking a walker down 16 stairs at 9 m/o, jumping on the bed after being yelled at that I'd fall & hit my head (woke up in the ambulance), riding a bicycle into a brick wall (don't ask), running head first into a cafeteria table in 2nd grade, taking one of those 2-person stand up swings in the back of the head & knocking the windshield out of a 1980 El Camino after a sudden 60-0 event w/o a seatbelt.

2 scars on my chin. One from skipping off the dashboard in the aforementioned El Camino incident & one from dropping into the prone & landing my chin on the carrying handle of my M16A2. Playing Army in the woods, reacting to contact, but thanks to my Charlie Brown head & requisite mondo-sized k-pot, a rucksack & friggin' MILES rigged up, I couldn't lift my head up/back.

Couple on my left hand, as well. Almost cut the tip of my left ring finger off as a kid, then a year later managed to bury an x-acto knife blade in the meat between thumb & index finger.

Thankfully the multiple times I set myself on fire & much more vehicular mayhem, both 2 wheeled & 4, haven't left any lasting (physical) marks.

Spartan01's bicycle story reminds of one of my more spectacular fails. 8, maybe 9 y/o & we lived on a big hill. Our uphill neighbor's driveway basically bordered our property. Nice, smooth ditches. I get the bright idea to haul ass from the top of the hill, use their driveway as a ramp & get some big air.

Friggin' culvert under the driveway that I had failed to factor in had other plans. I got some air all right, but not on the bicycle. Cleared the neighbor's driveway by a few feet, though.

At 10 y/o I launched a Honda Mini Trail 70 off a 3' or so embankment & yard sale-d into my buddy's front yard & maybe less than 10' from my buddy's drinking beer on the porch. His parents about shit themselves, but somehow both myself & the bike were fine.

Way too many. Hit in the head with an axe, hit in the face with a shovel (both accidents), tore cheek open with the hammer of a NEF 12 gauge, putting head through windshield, nose is super crooked from breaking it 3 or more times, and a bunch of small circular scars on the left side of my cheek from putting out cigarettes, and a really annoying one on the inside of my right eyelid. Numerous marks on my hands and arms from playing with knives, axes, and other tools (nearly removing a finger once), putting my arms through windows, punching various solid objects, and blowing up things. Have a massive curled patch of skin on my thigh from an exploding car battery, plenty of marks left by the surgeon fixing where a car hit me; skin over my knees is probably 90% scar tissue by this point.

I like a guns and trucks with some marks on them, makes sense I would treat this sh*tshow body the same way, right?

Alright... Let's see if I can get them all:
1. Right Thigh 12 Deep Scars from a BMX into a blackberry patch... They are light and look like White Lion scratches

20. I ... I ... think that about covers it....

If scars are the tattoo's of my life.. I can surmise it in one sentence: "Either my balls are way bigger than my brain or my brain is smaller than my balls."(Toilet seat incident had no size effect in 2015... see number 15)

When I was 17 I wrecked on my dirt bike, unannounced to me a 10" chain link fence had been installed in the woods. I hurt my knee. I'd wrap duct tape above my knee and continue to ride the skateboard park, work and go to school w/o seeing a Dr. It swelled/abscessed like 1/2 of a football was on the side of my knee. They cut a 3/8" hole and it drained green for two weeks. Years later I had torn meniscus surgery on both knees.

It's just a ring finger.
About 34 years ago, doing 60mph in traffic on my street bike. A tie down on the back came loose, got caught in the chain, the other end whipped up and around my left wrist, pulling my hand into the chain, and me into the turn lane. I grabbed the bars to get it under control, my finger slipped on the clutch. When I looked down the glove was gone and the end looked like it had been removed with a cleaver. White center, red ring nicely circled in my outer wrap color.
Then 14 years ago, my wedding ring hadn't come off in 17 years, and due to work callouses and weight gain, it couldn't. I had been troubleshooting a forklift for hours that included a 2,500lb 48V battery. I failed to disconnect power one time, *POP* instantly he ring was glowing like a kitchen burner and the skin below it blew out both sides. Tried to cut it off with dykes- bad move, they twisted with the ring. Eyes now squirting, I folded a business card under and slowly cut through with a hacksaw. It dripped for almost two weeks.

This pic is from 2015, I was still wearing the cut ring for 11 years, you can also see my groovy 'Y' scar at the tip.

Had a nail gun fail last year, a nail bent in the gun and shot out the side and into my pointy finger. The head stayed in the gun and I had to cut it off.
Nail Through.jpg

My shoulder had been irritated for several years, I went to the physical terrorist several times, nothing seemed to help. At my youngest son's wedding two years ago, there was a rope swing over the river. I had to show the young 'uns how it's done. Swung out and did so. A few minutes later I went to point at something and felt a eye squirting tear in my shoulder. My long tendon ripped loose. Got an X-ray at Ral Ortho, they said it looked good and gave me a cortisone shot with my arm looking like this.
IMG_2907.JPG
I went in for a second opinion from another Dr there and got an MRI, they said all the tendons looked good
I got him to do surgery and they were very surprised to find my long tendon wasn't even there.
I've a Popeye bicep. When I DuckDuckGo'd that, the second thing that came up was it's most common for men 50-60 years old that have had shoulder irritation for an extended time (damned physical terrorist should have known that).

I had 24 broken bones by the time I was 18
Double hernia at 4
Cut off, and had a big toe sewn back on when I was 5. Some douchnozzle broke a Coke bottle in the creek. It was 1" tall from the bottom, I stepped on it and she just popped off.

Around 20 I was a passenger in a Fiat and the girl driving went under a semi trailer. The roof got ripped off, scalped me in the process and cut the brake lines. The rear tires went over my door and into my lap , then locked up and drug the car 800 yards sideways down the road. I-85 Greensboro rush hour traffic. It took over 4 hours to lift it off of me. My right leg was crushed and they told me I'd never walk again w/o a walker.
I had over 200 people come and see me in person, they couldn't believe I was alive.
There's more, I'll stop now.

The biggest... 3wheeler man eating machine wreck. Right knee looks like I've had 3 surgeries, ripped skin from my right ankle, knee , hip, chest, nipple, both fore arms and both hands.
Countless cuts, rips, gashes, nail holes, bruses on my arms and hands from construction.
When I was 5, I was climbing on a swing set and got scraped ( not even bloody) by a bolt end sticking out on my inner left thigh. Left a half moon scar I can still see 47 years later.

Got some scars from being shot. They don't look to spectacular, sorta like a largish funny shaped TB inoculation scar. Got a pretty good one on the leg where a grinder bit me.

1983, working at Friendly's (pretty big chain of ice cream shops up in the Northeast). We just got this new product, Ice Cream Pies. Real popular and we sold a lot of slices. They were kept in a stainless caddy that fit in the dipping freezers with the boxes of ice cream. The caddy had 4 shelves and a handle on top to pull it in and out. Genius that designed the caddy put a lip on the edge of the handle and sure enough, I'm sliding the thing back into the freezer after cutting a piece of strawberry and it nicks out a 1/2" chunk of my left middle fingertip.

I didn't think much of it and wrapped up the finger in a napkin and got back to work. A few seconds later I feel something dripping down my arm and I'm bleeding like hell. Got sent upstairs to the doc's he asks where the piece that got chunked out went, since he could set it back in there. He called down to the restaurant and no one could find it - since the rest of the strawberry ice cream pie had already been served.

So I got 7 stitches and a nice little scar and some lucky customer got more than whipped cream sauce on their pie.

Table saw, circa 1986

Oh no..... I got scars, physical AND mental, but too many to go into detail about... I got scars you can see, some you can't see and some you wouldn't want to see 'cause I'd have to take clothes off... Trust me on this one...

yeah, I did not post a picture of my scrotum. Bicycle accident when i was 9, just a few stitches
