So my aunt picked up a lot at a police surplus auction in Florida. Had a couple of new FAST-type(?) ballistic helmet shells in it and my cousin gave me one. No padding, no retention system. I know the holes on the sides/behind the ear are for attachment of that stuff and the 3 holes up front are for night vision and such, but that's it...

What do I need to make it usable? Links to specific parts would be helpful as would any instructions.

Also if anyone has spare parts available let me know...

If it is a legit Ops-Core FAST helmet, you need to know which one as there are several models of the FAST...hopefully yours is the LE model...scroll around the attached link for replacement parts...one of the best helmets out there.

Keep in mind, it you get zapped, most of your dental work will be found in that "Dome of Abidance".

Dome of Abidance = helmet. When we were forced to wear them, thats what we called it.

dental work + zapped. You can figure that out. LOL

You're anti-helmet? Why? Seems like protecting your dome is a good idea? I imagine getting shot in a helmet sucks donkey balls but it's bound to be better than being shot without one...

I take it he’s just stating the obvious for bit of comedy. If you get shot, with any armor, it’ll suck big time. Of course, to your point, you’ll still be alive, hopefully.

Wait a minute... Are you saying I can't strap on my rifle plates and my helmet and run through a hail of gunfire unharmed and come out the other side ready to do some John Wick shite?

Hollywood lied to me... :(

I’m sorry but we don’t have enough time to correct all the things Hollywood has shown you, one of us will die first. Just know, if Jerry Miculek can’t bend bullets, there’s no way in hail Angelina Joelle can!

Ok... Next you're going to try to tell me a shotgun blast doesn't send a bad guy flying backwards through a plate glass window...

If it gets to the level you need a ballistic helmet state side, the medical support to bring you back after a shot to the nugget is gone. At the same time, helmets are great for night vision mounting and bump hazards.

I can say I am happy that you can own one and you do you bro. LOL

Where the best deal for a helmet? Most interested in a bump style for NV in the woods, unless a real skull bucket price would be close.

Since the eighties when helmet is mentioned I hear “hemet an dem shoulda-ma-pads” @4:10. *Language warning*

I was recently teaching an industrial safety class and unknowingly said, “you could get yourself seriously killed”. A guy stopped me and asked if I really just said that.

I'm sure. I'm not serious about it. You know me. I'm no tactical Timmy but we all like toys... As stated in the OP, it was a gift. I've got a few sheckles in the pads and chin strap, that's it. Never even looked into helmets until my cousin pulled it out of a pile of gear and said "want one of these?"...

I figure if I have body armor anyway it can't hurt...

Just to toss this out as a slight counter to the "A helmet will only save you if you can get to medical attention quickly"...for decades non-bullet proof helmets were issued to soldiers on the battlefield who fully well knew that they couldn't handle a direct hit. They were designed to protect from shrapnel and falling debris. So while I doubt what ever boogaloo situation is coming is going to include artillery raining down rocks and debris, there is still something to be said for protecting the dome from flying splinters from cover you may be hiding behind.

I think that's probably their biggest benefit. It's a small area of protection from a bullet anyway. I wore and still occasionally wear hardhats on sites. Not because they are going to save me from being crushed to death or anything, and you tend to hit your head more with one on than without, but every little bit helps...

Plus, come on... Kevlar helmet! How neat is that?!? Lol...
