My aging eyes are having trouble seeing the sights on my WASR, and I’m considering a scope. Fellow at work gave me a solid feeling side mount, and I’m wondering what scope y’all would recommend? I’m thinking something like a 2-7, or maybe a 3x Nikon P series. Opinions?

I think 1-4x is really all you need for an AK, but a 2-7x might be compact enough to ride right. Primary Arms or Nikon should do the trick.

Just remember with that mount and a scope you're adding more weight to an already hefty rifle. For that reason I recommend a red dot on most AKs. But if you insist, I have a Leupold VX-R scout 1.5-6x I will depart with for the measly sum of $450 :D

@303hunter how far out are you planning to shoot, and what will your targets generally be? Also, what's your budget? For anything a couple hundred yards or less, a 1-4x optic (Primary Arms, Vortex, Burris, and Bushnell all make good and similarly priced tubes) calibrated to 7.62 ballistics should more than suit you. Alternatively, I've run Burris fixed 3x and 5x prism sights on a couple of my guns and really like them as well.

200 yards will probably be max distance I’ll probably shoot. May take it on a deer hunt or two this year, as it’s turned out to be more accurate than I thought it would be.

Today, I mounted an el cheapo Konus 3-9x32, and was surprised at my WASR’s accuracy. With my handloads, I was getting 3-3 1/5” groups. Plenty accurate for deer hunting. Was shooting from a table on my range bag. With a solid rest I believe I could tighten those groups some.

Found a Redfield 2-7x34 Revenge that I’d forgotten about. I’ll try this scope before I buy another.
