Ok guys. I have put together a decent AR for semi long range. Chambered in 223. Will be using the heavy pills 75gr plus. Hope to one day take it to 800 plus yards.

My max budget is $425 for the scope. I have a decent mount ( Aero precision).

I was heavily leaning to the swfa ss x10. Has awesome reviews and was recommended by a well know shooter.

I research stuff to death and have found 2 other scopes with good reviews as well. They are the Primary arms 4x14x44 FFP and the Athlon Optics Argos BTR 6-24x50 Side Focus. The last being the most expensive at $390 from OP. I really want a variable scope. I don't want to be tide to one magnification. But if it's my best option then I will in my price range.

Are there any other scopes in my price range I should look at?

Needs to be a FFP and have a 30mm tube( to use my current mount).

I have two of the PA 4-14x44 FFP scopes. We aren't that far apart if you'd like to look before you buy. I'm satisfied with mine but admittedly would like something with a little more magnification.

Ya I'm about to say screw it and buy one next week! Lol they have a ton of good reviews and have a awesome company that stands behind them too.....

I think I am the only person in the world that has had issues with the PA 4-14X ACSS scope. It zeroes and shoots great, but as soon as I throw it on the rifle rack of a 4 wheeler and rattle it around a little, the zero is off the paper. No problems with ACOG, Vortex, RMR or even the PA red dot in the same rack.

I paid a little over 500 for a Vortex HS-T 6-24x50 and it tracked perfectly to 1150 at bang steel a few weeks ago. That said, the instructor's son uses an Athlon FFP of some type on his Ashbury Precision Ordinance 6.5 Lapua and it was amazing.

Ok I found a Leupold mark4 at my local. It's friggin awesome! It ain't cheap $1000 but damn. Should I put it on the payment plan?? Buy once cry once?

not my add, but there is a SWFA 3-15x44 in the EE now that looks to be an ok deal on a universally recommended scope. A buddy at the class was shooting to 1K with his AR10 and a 14 power 2nd focal, so it's plenty of magnification to get you out there.

I know the 223 is not ideal for long range. But it will work for the time being as this is my first time really trying longer ranges. I will probably change up to the 6.5 Grendel when the time comes.

The scope I found is the mark 4 m1 part # 54560. OP sells them for $1300. I can get it for a touch over $1000 local as he has had it for some time and wants to move it. I think it's a good deal. Just trying to find if it is worth it to me ( being my first real try at longer ranges) to go ahead and spend the $ and get this scope.

Thanks for the input so far guys!! I really do appreciate it!!

Edit. Well it looks like I jumped the gun alittle. The mark 4 is off the table...

The leopold would have been worth the money. If it were me out of what you suggested I would get the fixed power swfa in mil-mil. I've shot them from ~25 yards out to 800 without a problem.

Take a look at the Leupold AR Mod 1 6-18x40 for the gun. The P5 turrets are exposed and very tactile. If you want to later get custom turrets like the high M1 turrets and preset to the caliber and weight of the primary projectile for a little more money. Then you can either use the nil dots or dial quickly the distance and back to zero. Scope runs less than $500 and clarity is much like the VX3 line.

Hunting in cover I would go this same scope in 4-12x40. 6x is very strong for dense cover hunting acquisition.
