I recently decided on a CZ457 and after a bit of research and knowing I'm unlikely to modify the gun much myself, I elected to get a higher end model (CZ 457 Varmint Precision Trainer MTR, .22 w/ 16.5 barrel) which is on the way. Now I need to pick out a scope, case, bipod, etc.

I'm likely to put a longer-range scope on it in the future, but my most immediate and most often shooting will be done between 10 and 50 yards, target and squirrels. I might try my hand at some of the 50 yard challenges you guys do here. I also plan on getting a silencer for this gun, likely a Dead Air version.

Anybody have insights into scopes that might be useful at closer 10 - 50 yard shooting? Rings / mounts? Most of the research I've done gives me info on scopes for longer range shooting. Looking to lean more towards for quality & features vs cheap price.

Some of the links I've read through, Vortex Crossfire II seems to come up a bunch in many of these discussions:

Edit - just found these two roundups which are useful

I picked up an open box Meopta from camerlandny.com for my last 22lr rifle. It’s a 1” tube and 4-14x44. Don’t think that model is made anymore, but they have some scopes with as low as 2.5 x magnification and some good higher end magnification too. I’d check out their site and see if you can find something that works for you. I am very happy with my Meopta. I may buy another for a recent acquisition.

I am running 4-12 Vortex FFP on mine. I think those run about $450. I added a 20MOA base from EGW. So far so good.

Thanks - you recall which model Vortex you have? Some of the SFP models made it on the lists I linked above but trying to find the 4-12 FFP option on their site to look it

I'll also check out the Meopta, haven't heard of them before (but I'm not all that familiar with scope brands beyond the most mainstream ones)

Thank you! I ended up reaching out to Vortex earlier this week and chatting with them about which might be best fit for me.

Using their recommendation, I ended up ordering the below, Viper PST Gen II 3-15 x 44 FFP (arrived today)

If you wanna borrow my Arisaka scope leveling tool, lemme know.

I may take you up on it once I google up what that is and what it does :D The Vortex rep recommended their 30mm low rings and they should arrive tomorrow. I did look at the Area419 base which had good reviews but was not sure of fit on the specific CZ 457 model I bought.

I did end up buying a cheapo Arksight green laser boresight tool, hope to reduce time to dial it in.

It’s one of the slickest things you’ll ever see…so flippin’ simple it’s genius. Just need to have a flat spot on the host, and the scope has to be flat on the bottom of the turrets.

Yup, arisaka levelers are the bomb.

if you don’t have a set, feelers gauges are a very close second.
