I'm converting my AR9 rifle back to a pistol. Last time when I went from pistol to rifle I just swapped the whole upper assembly. This time I wanted to keep the same upper so I'm just swapping the barrel and handguard. This will be my first barrel install so I've been watching some videos and several mention "seasoning the threads" by tightening down the barrel nut and loosening it 2 or 3 times before torqueing it down. Is this a thing and does it matter if the upper and barrel nut have been previously used and not new? Thanks.

maybe on a new barrel nut and reciever. There's not that much stretch in aluminum before it breaks so meh. Use a good thread lube like aeroshell in small amounts. Torque past 35ft-lbs but less than 80. Sometimes I use the Gootentite method if I don't feel like using the torque wrench or I have a weirdo barrel nut.
