My family has been offered a stay at a time share in North Myrtle Beach next month... It's in the 400 block of South Ocean Blvd.

I have never been to Myrtle Beach and have seen folks comment here about how it has a lot more crime these days.

This location seems a good ways north of MB, but I thought I'd check in to see how much concern it warrants.

Thanks for any info or advice!

Always be thinking of your security, but that area isnt too bad

North and the very southern point are pretty good
But MB proper...it really is alarming
25 years ago I walked that strip alone at night - just going into the little stores and playing video games in the arcades till I was broke
Now, during the day, Im on high alert and it just doesnt feel 'good'

If you stay away from the main drag its not terrible. But there is still tons of spots in NC and SC that are alot better then any part of myrtle. My dad moved us down to Surfside after Hugo hit to get in on the rebuilding. It was a nice place as a kid. Now you want catch me no where near the strip. Specially during any event the crime rate goes crazy with rapes and robberies, shootings, stabbings you name it its a cesspool of the worst kind. And definitely don't ever drive the strip unless you like setting in a crowded shithole of traffic for hours.

Thanks all, I really appreciate the local perspective and the advice đź‘Ť

With some trepidation we rented a house at North Myrtle some years ago, for the same reason. Despite the name, the two--MB and North MB--are actually a bit away from each other. We really enjoyed our time, had zero issues. I'd do it again.

Certainly has went downhill over the years. Early 80’s multiple trips with friends families and graduating class trip, we went everywhere with no issues. Today no way I’d want my grandkids there especially during events. They don’t call it Murder Beach now for nothing. Sad was a good time back then.

You're probably more likely to get stopped by a local cop for no good reason other than having NC tags than having any other trouble but I'm always strapped regardless, in a vehicle, in the house, out for a walk, etc.

I live just north of there, it's pretty decent. I would take my family to stay there with just the normal care, no real worries. Enjoy your stay, go to Cherry Grove Beach BTW it's nicer and less people.

Been going to Cherry Grove and Ocean drive for a week every year since I was born. It's like home away from home.

It's way busier than it used to be, but I feel as safe there as anywhere. In fact, I feel less safe in whiteville, chadbourn, etc than I do in NMB.

I don't venture into actual MB except for taking the kids to the aquarium or some other something like that.
