Seen on I40

Yeah traffic was crazy today on I-77, crazier than normal. Remember all the race trash traffic that will be in the area of Mooresville,Concord and Charlotte area as well.

Had a guy set his neighbors car on fire for threatening him today.

I retired a bunch of fire extinguishers when Kidde had a recall. I have them everywhere now.

After a certain point a fire extinguisher won't matter. I have happened upon a few vehicle fires and stopped to put them out. No dice. took the fire department to stop them.
Years back we were warned of certain vehicles (Fiero, Saturn, etc) with composite body panels gave off toxic smoke and to only approach with a SCBA. With today’s hybrids and their battery packs I wonder what next SOPs have come out.

I saw a Smart car about a year ago on I-20 outside of Columbia on fire! No wreck, not sure what happened. Looked like a burnt marshmallow over a campfire!

At least the occupant(s) aren't standing there just a few feet away watching it burn. I've seen that very thing on several occasions.

Next time you're on a trip driving on the interstate and you're with your significant other and/or kids, have them look out for scorched earth places on the side of the road. You will be amazed at how many you come across.

Many times it's from blown out transmission front seals. But many times it's from catastrophic engine failures as well.

Asked a coworker thats in a large fire department what they do on electric cars and he said they train to only cut certain color power cables and stay away from others for them. Not sure what happens when the wreck cuts them.

Stay away from the ORANGE cables. They are high tension cables on hybrid vehicles. Industry standard. All orange cables on electric cars means bad news, if you are not trained and have the correct tools.

How has this thread gone on this long without anyone asking for details on this post?
Spill the beans. What’s the story?

Lol Well the guy snitched on the fire victims son for an unsolved murder so they supposedly had threatened him after their son got arrested (confessed). So he walked over about 4am cut a hole in their convertible top and dropped some kind of fire bomb. Then walked back across the street.
Honestly people wouldn't even believe this if it was written into a tv show.

Sunday morning, I passed a chicken eating on the side of the road near Exit 113 on I-40. It was a barred rock hen. No burning cars, though.

I keep a fire extinguisher in the truck.

So do I, but I don't intend on using it, that's why I have insurance and a perfectly good pair of legs, run Forest run....

Water cop once asked me what I was going to do with "that little thing" meaning my little 1/2 pound extinguisher and I replied "avoid a ticket for not having one"..... I don't fight fires, I pay agreed value insurance....

We all know the question. Now we know the answer. Thanks, I won't be waking up at 3pm anymore.

My wife said something similar when I told her about it. Lol

That's what we are taught as well. Also cutting them up has special challenges and all them airbags everywhere.

Yep. Especially when the extinguisher is dry chemical. Most likely, a vehicle fire involves flammable liquids leaking from somewhere. Dry chemical sucks for this because it can't cover dripping, burning gasoline.

And CO2 is even less effective, to the point of being useless.

Not saying don't fight the good fight...but don't let it give you false hopes. Better to get everybody out and a safe distance away first and foremost. As I told one young lady my wife and I stopped to help as her car was burning, who wanted to get her purse out of the car. It was a small fire, fueled by leaking gas. My wife's extinguisher knocked the flames down, but couldn't smother them. "Lady, is there ANYTHING in that purse worth literally being burned to death for? The fire department is on the way, let them take care of this and get your purse when they say it's safe. Let's stay away where it's safe until then."

Obviously the insurance wire shorted out!!!

I always thought those wands they use for vehicle engine fires were cool. Like giant plant watering wands, for getting water up into the engine compartments.
