Trying to figure out the best way to sell a Ruger LC9 with green laser.

I purchased a Ruger LC9 with Viridan Green Laser a few years ago to use as a CCW pistol. I could not shot the pistol well enough to carry it so it has been sitting in the safe. Time to make room for something else. I want to sell it but having on lived in NC for about one year, I find myself unfamiliar with how I can get the most for it. I would actually find a Win-Win deal where everyone gets what they way.

I know this forum has an ONLINE handguns for sale section. I could advertise there listing the holsters that I have that will be part of the deal. The issue for me is to follow all state and federal laws. I know that I would need a local FFL to ship the firearm and a receiving FFL to do the background check. The buyer would need to have a CCH in NC or a PPP in NC if they live in the same state. What is the best way for me to get paid for the pistol that is also safe for the buyer?

I am sure there are other things I should know before start to advertise. I have sold pistols before in other states that I have lived but knew the buyer before I decided to sell.

Yes I know that I could go to one of the several local pawn shops that deal in guns but am afraid that I would only get a fraction of what the pistol would be worth to a buyer that really wants it. I also know that the new Ruger LC9s is not very expensive and online reviews have been better pretty good.

Looking to get an education as one of the new members of this forum. Your help in educating me is appreciated.

Thank you for your input in advance.

Gary

1. You may only sell directly to an NC resident that has a valid NC ID and EITHER 1) a Pistol Purchase Permit issued by the Sheriff OR 2) a valid NC Concealed Handgun Permit.

2. You may sell to an in-state buyer via your local/his local FFL if you it makes you feel good, but an in-state transaction is NOT required to be handled by an FFL at all.

3. You may sell to an out of state resident by delivering the pistol to an FFL in the recipient's state. You can hand deliver (drive over the border), ship (UPS, FedEx, etc.) yourself, or have a local FFL ship for you. There is no law that says you must ship via a local FFL, but some receiving FFL's (the buyer's FFL) require that condition.

4. That's it. There are no exceptions.

Bill of Sale, transaction records, receipts, blood samples...none of that is required by law but may give you a warm fuzzy feeling to use.

Best way to get paid is Cash for an in person/face to face deal. If you are shipping to an out of state FFL, I like Postal Office Money Orders. Cash the money order before you ship is the normal practice.

@GaryS
As far as law goes, this is about the best post Ive seen in one of these type of threads.
Brief, to the point, and accurate.
Follow this and you'll have no worries at all.

As Johnny said, try here first. My guess is you'll sell it within two weeks locally for cash or be able to trade into something you want.

The membership here is great. Ive met several folks through here that I never would have if not for a deal. We talk about lots of random things here, but we also talk about deeply personal issues, too. Health issues, deaths, births, etc. Putting real names and faces to a screen name makes the forum experience much better, imho.

This should be a sticky post.

Thanks. Keep it coming.

Got me thinking about what I would trade for. The several different handguns I would would be me trading the LC9 plus some of my CASH to get it. I am retired, have the cash, and time to travel anywhere in the state for a trade.

this forum trade section is more to facilitate face to face deals than something like Gunbroker where shipping is the norm.

Look for a buyer with good feedback score to gain confidence when arranging a meetup with a stranger from the internet. Can't get that on armslist...

Thanks.

Being a NEW guy here, I am attempting to learn the people, the normal procedures, and making posts to get my post count up so that people will also get to know me.
