I’m about to pull the trigger on a “long range precision upper” in the form of a Larue 6.5 CM ultimate upper. I’ve decided on 6.5 CM but undecided on barrel length. This rifle will be used from a bench or prone 99% of the time. I may hunt with it occasionally (I deer hunted twice all last year). It will be shot suppressed 100% of the time. I’m leaning towards 18” to keep over all length down since my can will add 7 or 8 inches. This will be my first long range purpose built gun and I’m trying to make sure everything will be right. Something about long range shooting semi auto with holdovers is just intriguing to me. Ive talked myself out of a bolt gun for that reason.
