Set some traps today.

@Tailhunter today was a good day. Caught a yote and a red fox.

Sooo cool.
I have a 2.5 acre field that I trap. Plus a couple traps along the driveway.
The coons are warring me out. I had a few year ago gotten rid of 30 of them. They are back in force.
The 3 grey’s have come out of the field, of course.
Maybe next year I can come up with a few farms, who knows?

Yeah. I’ve found its very easy to get land to trap. Not so much to hunt lol

Awesome!!! I've caught hundreds of foxes but it was before the coyotes were populated in our area. Are you catching them both in the same sets, or setting coyote sets differently? Thanks

We have some Fox only sets but the yote was caught in the same set as 2 greys.

Just got all my coil spring traps (about 50) frame welded, center swiveled, new springs, new pans, new dogs, new chains, new swivels.

I’m ready, for what I’m not sure, but I’m ready none the less.

The new MB 550 traps come with all that mess done. Might be cheaper just to buy new traps in the future just FYI.

They are about twice as much.

These traps where ones I already had. So it was just some 20d nails, some 5/16 nuts and chain.
And the MIG of course. Lots of fun anyway.

I did buy 4 MB550’s just for the hay of it. They are great Coyote/Bobcat traps but way over kill on the foxes.

But if I was starting from scratch, I would look at them hard.

Cabela's sells them for around $20 a piece IIRC. You can find better places other places but buying in the store is a convenience. Esp when Dukes are $12 each.

Personally my favorite Coyote trap is the Bridger 1.75 when you laminate the outside with 3/16" rod and 4 coil em. They are great for the money.

The bridger 1.75 comes with the paws-I-trip pan too. If I buy any more those will be the ones.

If the yotes tear them up, I try something different.

We are running mb450 for Fox only sets and k9 xtreme jrs on the Fox/yote sets. Really like the k9 traps. They’re about bomb proof.

The 550’s are built like a tank.

Definitely a coyote snatcher.

My favorite fox trap has always been the victor 1.75

That big red charm is an old farmall M.
Thanks for the pics, always loved the old farmalls. That gray looks huge. I saw one on my way home from work tonight. What do y’all do with any coons you catch. I have thought about getting a box trap to show my girlfiends son how to catch coons in one, think he would enjoy it.

Did you weigh the big gray? Sure looks like a whopper.

I didn’t weigh it but it measured 48” from nose to tail.

Mine were empty this morning.

Do you use any drags?
I have a few times but mostly stake them.
Used long rods when I was young but have been using earth anchors recently, they work great.

I made a drag from some scrap I found today. Going to try it in the snow to see how it works, just incase I have to track him.

No I haven't used drags before. This is only my second year trapping so I'm pretty new to it. I use wolf fang anchors and a JC connor shock spring with 2 swivels and a quick link. I have thought about drags though just never done it.

Well the homemade drag is out this morning.

The foxes moved big last night but did not dig thru the snow to get to the sets, yet.

Had a big red dig thru an 18” drift of snow onetime to get caught. ;)

A double on Grey fox this morning.

I have seen no coyote sign anywhere, even in the snow.

Repaired a #2 Montgomery step-in with a larger pan and a dog made out of a 20d nail.

45 year old trap still catching foxes.
