I am interested in a 45 shield but so far have only been able to find a shield 9 or shield 40 to rent/test locally.

There is also a Smith & Wesson M&P 45c for rent.

Would test firing any of these give me a good idea how a shield 45 trigger would be like?

Thnx.

I own the 9, .40 and .45 full size and the .45 shield, I think the triggers are pretty similar.

I have all three and I would say that the trigger on the .45 is different. So is the texture on the grip.......

I haven't handled a .40 but there is a big difference in the grip texture between the 9mm and the .45. I handled my buddy's .45 and decided it was too aggressive for me.

How much bigger is the 45 than the 9 ? If it's that much larger, they could have used the trigger from the M&P 45 rather than the Shield 9. I don't know this, but just wondering....

The 45 is enough bigger that it won’t fit into a chiefjason kydex holster made for the 9. Just a skosh.

tried the shield 9, xds 9, and a glock 43 today. each had their pluses and their minuses. really wish there was a shield 45 for rent. the m&p 45 was out for repairs

shield 9 felt the best in my hand but a tad small so thinking a shield 45 would fit nicely. really liked how the xds shot and the trigger but the grip was a bit too harsh, glock was great all around but the grip was a tad short and my pinky hung off the bottom and too smooth and i guess it was a 6 shot so might as well get a shield 45

didn't quite understand why people would have such a large variety of guns but I am beginning to see why. I currently have a 1911 and a s&w 625 and wanted to stick to the same caliber hence my interest in a shield 45 but after 3 or so boxes of ammo my hand is usually pretty sore. shot 2 boxes of 9mm today and hand felt perfectly fine after and now I want at least one 9mm, lol.

pro shots has a xds 45 available for rent, might try that this weekend.

The .45 Shield is just a little wider, with a more aggressive grip (That could be sanded if you didn't like it).
The trigger is also a little better than the .40 and the 9.

Doubt it. I had a shield 45 and that trigger was leaps and bounds better than the 9/40. Just get it.

I own both the 9mm and the 45 ACP, my current EDC is the Shield in 45 ACP. The 45 is slightly larger than the 9 and thus slightly heavier. As for firing the 45 is not all that bad, I thought the 40 version was much more snappier than the 45. I found the trigger on the 45 to be quite enjoyable with a better reset feel than the 9. If you have the opportunity to rent all three then I would highly recommend that you try them all and when you think you have made your choice, try some defensive loads in the one you like best.

I have the shield .40...the stock trigger was nice but I can't leave anything alone and installed the apex tactical trigger and action kit, made the gun much more enjoyable to shoot and got rid of some of the snappiness.

I would imagine the same trigger action kit would improve the .45 also.

Correction, 1911gobang, I still have the Shield 40 and it is the one I carry the most. I guess snappyness is in the eye (or hand) of the beholder because it doesnt bother me unless I shoot over 100 rds thru it. I am a pretty fair shot with it in our BUG matches, too.

I have tried it in a regular IDPA match and, yeah, it was a bit much. I picked up a shield 9 during the big sale and will give that a try in IDPA when the mags I just ordered comes in.

I own both the 9 mm and the 45 ACP versions of the Shield, I have also fired the 40. I found the 40 to be a very snappy gun, yes the 45 is a bit snappy as well, but not as aggressive as the 40. In my opinon that the grip and trigger on the 45 are just right for me. This is the kind of question that you can ask three different people and you will get three different responses.

How do you like the Hyve trigger mod. Noticed your mag extension so I googled it and discovered their Monarch trigger

Actually it’s the full apex kit and I love it. I wasn’t a fan on the hinged trigger and this solved it. The reset is super short and the pull is still around 5lbs.

I have two hyve baseplates that allow me to have 8+1 capacity. I have had some issues with magazines dropping while firing and have found that S&W made changes to the follower that seem to solve it.
