Went for my physical yesterday, all is fine for a 64yo. Had the typical
Heart
BP
Lung
Prostate (ugh)
Blood workup

Then we got to talking about COVID, Flu-Shots, etc. My wife had a case of Shingles and she said I should ask about it. I did and figured it would be a good idea.

Two shots, 4 months apart, and you're done. I was told that some find the shot painful and there could be a mild reaction. The shot in the arm was nothing, I did a side job last night, no pain. Figured I was one of the lucky ones.

This morning... Ugh, fever, aches, head ache, dog tired. Everything the Dr. said I could experience. So, if you get it, plan on feeling like you got beat up the next day. If not, you're one of the lucky ones.

I hope the 2nd shot is better...

I had the first, I will not get the second (I had shingles once, mild, on my back, about 20 years ago). I had a 102 temp, aches, chills, I felt horrible, sick as snot for about 24 hours. I told my doc "no thanks" for the second one.

I went through this much, I'm not giving up. But, I'll tell you how I feel in 4 months.

Sore arm for a few days but that was it.

Had the shot when it first came out. It's Great!! No more shingles. Mild soreness for a couple of hours and less for the second shot.

I had both. No reaction to either. Pharmacist told me that if you didn’t get the 2nd shot the 1st one was not effective. It’s not a 2nd dose of the first one according to him. Might be BS just to sell both. I had 2 friends that went through the shingles. I would take 10 more shots to keep from having what they went through

Had I known there was such a thing, I would've gladly taken it.
Got shingles 2 years ago. Not pleasant. Not at all.

They won't administer the shot while you've got shingles. Jenny has had shingles on her back for the last 8 years.

8. Years.

If she gets a steroid shot they'll go away for a month or two, but that usually presents other problems.

The availability of the shots was practically non-existent for the past couple years in Wake county. Demand I guess.
I just got my second one a few months ago.

Had none of the above. Got the original shingles single dose shot a year before the 2 dose shots. I also got flu shots both years and a pneumonia shot. Worse reaction I had was "pain and swelling at injection site". Sorry you had a bad reaction. Way better than shingles so I'm told.

First shot wasn't bad, second shot was pretty bad.

The little pain from that shot ain’t crap compared to a case of shingles ... my Mom almost went crazy with it.

Got the second one (Shingrix) a few months ago. Zostavax was a breeze. With Shingrix I got headache, fever, fatigue, shivering, nasuea and upset stomach. Didn't last long. Still better than shingles.

I got the flu shot and 1st shingles shot last Wednesday. My arm with the shingles shot swelled and was fevered and extremely sore for 6 days. I did feel pretty rough for several days, but I'll get the second shot in a couple months. They told us anytime after 2 months, not 4 months.

Same here. I had the original one shot shingles vaccination 5 or so years ago and they told me that it was not effective and to get the two shot version which I did. I was on the list at the Harris Teeter pharmacy for some time but finally got the call last year to come on in. Insurance covered it.

holy carp
I had shingles on my back in my early 30s. It only lasted a couple weeks but it was baaad.
At the time the girl I was dating was asking if there was anything she could do to take my mind off the trouble...
my answer was pretty much "no, and stop bugging me until they're gone"
strange thing for a healthy 30something guy to say, but i was pretty miserable. She's my wife now though, so it worked out.

i have had both NEW shingles shots (i got the old one, too).
i have seen shingles and i do not want any part of that.
i had the shivers/sweats after both of the NEW shots.
it was waaay worth it.

Thanks for reminding me I need to get this done. Probably schedule it next week.

Not googling. What is shingles? My step mom has it right now. She seems fine.

Its what they put on the roof of your house, lol.

It is a viral infection that typically causes open sores and hurts like hell. I have heard people describe it as being the most painful thing they have ever dealt with and it can last a very long time. As someone above said, it had been 8 years.

revenge of the chickenpox
if you're lucky it just hits you in the back or down an arm...
if you're less lucky it hits you across the face and you lose an eye or two.
