If I sell a gun across any state line, I understand [now] it must be shipped to a FFL in that state. USPS for long or shotguns, private for handguns.

Is there any special paperwork or just call the FFL, give them a heads up, and include name and phone of the buyer?

Make sure the ffl will accept from individuals.

Also, if shipping a handgun it cannot go via USPS.

One more. Any sale between state lines must go through an ffl.

Your local FFL can ship a handgun cheaper than you can. FedEx overnight (required I believe) and signature will cost you well over $50. Your FFL can ship via USPS for a charge to of about $35 including FFL charges. And they verify the FFL, not you. Easier and cheaper.

I just received a set of pistols through www.shipmygun.com. Overnite from AZ to NC. The seller must include a copy of identity verification (driver's license or CCW) for the receiving FFL to document transfer. From what the seller said, it was by far the cheapest method. It did ship by FedEx.

Even thought it does not apply to the OP I would add that if you are sending a gun out for custom work you do not want to use a FFL to send it. If you do it has to come back through the FFL which will cost you another transfer fee. Once it is shipped by your FFL it is in their book as a transfer so it is not longer "your gun." If you send it directly you can receive it back directly because it was never logged into a FFLs log.

If its close enough you can also deliver it to the ffl in person.
