Shooting double questions.

I’m riding the reset until the front sight post comes back into focus. But I’m no speed demon. I have found anticipation to be a problem when shooting hammered pairs or double taps tho. Still working that out. Can’t seem to make a good way to replicate it with dryfire unfortunately. Maybe will grab a air soft gun with a reciprocating slide and see if that helps?

See the "sights". Be ready to shoot as soon as the "sight" returns. Know how much you need to see: reason sight(s) in quotes.

You can get away with not seeing the "sights" for subsequent shots on the same target out to some distance but it is not appreciably faster and leaves a level of uncertainty that makes calling your shot completely impossible. Another similar problem, my favorite, looking away before the gun fires on the last shot in target.

Or looking over the sights. The laser cartridge and SIRT got me into the habit of looking over my sights for the red dot to see the hit/miss. Still find myself looking for a hit/miss on paper between shots. That’s the nice thing about steel.[emoji6]

I just had a really good day at the range but I always shoot better there.
I did notice when I shot doubles at close range sometimes I would fire before I acually had a good site picture.

How did your hits on target look? If the holes were touching I’d say keep doing what you are doing. If there’s more than 1-2inches between (depending on how far your target is) you may want to slow it down

IMG_4009.JPG This was one of my better days. I would draw and shoot with a par time of 3 seconds.
Distance in Ft 10,20,30,40,50. The 50 is the one at the bottom of the target. 6" Black. I'm really proud of these. Can't shoot like that at a match.

I bet you can. I spent all one Saturday practicing classifiers last year. Couldn't break into the next class by several seconds.

Shot the same classifier as a match the next weekend and made it.

When y'all really good guys shoot doubles ( double tap) do you acually see your sites that quick on the second shot or is it muscle memory or a combo of both?
There are a lot of good guys in here but that's the only screen names I know. So anyone please speak up.
Didn’t read all the responses, so forgive me if I’m repeating things.

Depends on the distance, and this is for me personally so take it for what it’s worth!

0-5 yards: hard grip, don’t even see the sights the second time.

6-10 yards: when I see a flash of my red front fiber optic between the rear sights, I break the trigger. Some people say they watch the front sight bounce up and down, when it gets back to its previous level you break the trigger.

Over 10 yards: I get a nearly identical sight picture as the first shot, it’s just much quicker because I’m alread pointed in that direction.

Hope that helps!

Controlled pairs are something that for me requires practice. Also controlled pairs are a defensive and reactive action in my opinion and a 10 to maybe 15 yard max thing where my grip (and thumbs) from instinct hopefully get me a front sight on target center mass. If I can run ‘em where I can cover ‘em with the palm of my hand at those distances I’m happy.

You can be on my team anytime. If you're doing that consistently from 30-40-50 feet, you'd do to ride the river with.
He’s a good pistol shooter to spend as much time working and collecting commie blasters as he does.

Many years ago, returning with my 3 regular shooting Pards from a big match in another state. I had a good weekend and won High Overall. One of my Pards says...Hey! How come you shoot so much better in the match than when we're all practicing together. I replied, I don't, you Monkeys screw up. The people, the buzzer, the normal distractions that I loved and counted on being there, just messed them up. Learn to love the sound of that Timer.

I don't double tap...ever. within 7 yards I may take a target focus instead of a hard front sight focus on the 2nd shot...but no double taps. The more practice I have done, the less visible picture I need to confirm and press the trigger with targets 7 yards and in.

Haven't read the other responses yet...will do so tomorrow.

That may look really good, on a piece of paper, but if you're looking for maximum effect on a real target spread the shots around for greater effect. i.e. at least 2" between holes....

See what you need to see to make the hits. If the target is large and close I use a crude sight picture, as the distance increases I use a more refined sight picture. I do try to see my front sight for every shot.
