Shooting Low and Left

If I'm using the crease of my finger on the trigger, can it PUSH a shot low left, instead of pulling right? (I'm a righty.)

It's more likely that it'll pull right, in my opinion, but it IS possible. It's all in the mechanics of how your fingers work...really, they're a biological assembly of hinges, when you look at how they flex.

Put the pad of your fingertip on the trigger, centered. Practice shooting it this way.

I'm trying to get it centered. For some reason, on all the guns I've held, my finger crease automatically goes on the trigger!

Like most things, Millie, it takes practice.

How do you hold your pen when you write? There is an optimal way to hold a pen in general for writing, but people hold their pens in different ways and learn to write that way.

It takes time to learn how to draw a gun proficiently and "correctly", too...for all that it's a pretty simple task. You'd think it would be a pretty natural thing, right? I was just as guilty of making a strong-side draw from my IWB which would sweep entirely too wide of an arc as any other newbie when I started.

I'm not an expert by any means (despite what my Navy rifle and pistol medals may say), and can always use more improvement. But, like everything else in my life, I have to balance a lot of things in my books against the time and resources required for this skill. Even if I did, there would ALWAYS be people better than me.

Trigger control is absolutely essential in shooting a handgun. The sooner people UNDERSTAND this and actually take the time and effort to LEARN it, the sooner their shooting will improve.
