I want to get my son a new shotgun. The problem is he’s currently getting to big for his youth size mossberg model 510 and not quite big enough for a model 500. Is there an in between size or is it better to wait for his growth spurt? He’s currently 11.5 years old and he will get taller.

Does his 510 have the stock with their spacer system? If not, maybe try picking up one of those stocks? If so, maybe get a full size adult stock for his gun and give that a go? A new stock is cheaper than a new gun..... easier to experiment.

When I bought my Franchi Affinity, it came with a youth stock with spacers as well as the full size stock.
Might check into something like that. Or as RR says, just the stock.

Think about shimming his current stock until he has grown into the regular sized stock, save a lot of headache and coin....

Easy, take off the buttplate, scribe a line around it on some wood of different thicknesses. Cut out said wood. use screws just a tad longer to fit it all up.
Bingo bango... run it till he can fit a full size of his liking.

If you want to play with stacked kydex as a spacer system let me know. I have plenty of small scraps that you could likely stack up pretty easily to make shims/spacers. I'd be happy to throw you some in a box and drop it in the mail.

Kickeez makes 1/4" and 1/2" spacers under $10 that are easy to work and look good when you are finished.
