I’m looking to get into skeet shooting with my son. I want to invest in a great semi auto shotgun in 12 gauge. Any recommendations. I would like to stay 15-1600 or less. I’ll go a little more if it’s worth it, but we all have a budget

People are going to take issue with me on this one. I started with a full set of 1100s, way back in the day, then went to a K32 tube set and then 3200 barrel set. Now that I am old, I am back to the 1100 in 12 ga ga. I like wood stocks, but the competition model with the adjustable comb sure does look nice. Nice thing about 1100s is you never run out of parts.

It's not a glamorous as a Benelli or Beretta, but IMO it's the finest semi-auto ever made.

That and one day Remington will quit making them because their margins aren't as good as on the 11-87 or the Versa-Max. Then you will be glad you have them. Like when Winchester quit making the Model 12 or the Model 21.

I'm also in the 1100 camp.

I say stick with the 1100. 1187s are pressure compensated since they are 2 3/4 and 3" so they will not cycle as light of load reliably as the 1100 which is 2 3/4 only (except for the old steel magnums).

Stoeger makes an mk3 and m3000. Forget the difference but I know they are popular budget semi autos. Remington v3 got good reviews from Chuck Hawks.

Might look at Franchi, too. Made by Benelli in Italy, but a bit cheaper.

I'm in the 1100 camp. They are well made, lots of aftermarket accessories, very easy to disassemble. And in the off chance they cease functioning, easy to repair and millions of parts available. Plus with your budget you should easily be able to find two of them in good shape.

The Remington v3 is a really good gun I’ve never had a failure and I duck hunt every weekend with it during the season it holds up great through rain and snow also has a great price point. If you want to get a Cadillac get the benelli super black eagle 3

SxS is the way to go. If God had intended for you to shoot an O/U, your eyes would be one on top of the other!:D

If God had intended me to shoot skeet he wouldn' have made me right handed and left eye dominant. Although I will say that SxS does help correct for that somewhat. ;)
