After disassembling and cleaning an old Sears 200/Winchester 1200 shotgun for my FIL, I went to put it all back together and noticed this. The sear and hammer seem to be significantly misaligned. I can push them closer together but they slide apart after only one or two cycles.
I did not notice if it was like this when I took it apart, probably because it wasn't cocked. Is this normal or does it need to be fixed in order to be safe to use?
