Sig P365 versus Glock 43

I have come to feel pretty strongly about Glocks myself and my 43 is definitely not getting retired regardless of what I do with this 365. And I thought I'd never find myself saying I like the grip angle as opposed to an other firearm.

That said, I do remember Phil's Glock exploding in his hand last year at a match at H20. I think it fired out of battery as I recall. Not sure what ever really caused that, but it seems like no firearm is immune from failure.

Overcharged round. Which really isn’t a failure of the gun.
Replaced a few parts and gun lives on.

But I agree nothing magic about Glocks. And Ive seen Glocks go down for sure. Just not mine. And I am a looooooong way from having seen it all, that’s for sure. I’m no expert but one has to be confident in their carry guns and I’m confident in the 42/42/19 I use.
So no reason to change for an extra round or two.
I am sure that many have a lot of experience with their Sigs and feel the same way about them.

I get that there have been problems with the new Sig. I also get that there are people trying to make a living by finding problems with newly introduced guns. As I've mentioned, I've only run a few boxes thru mine so far and there have been no issues. I'll also state that I won't be ready to replace my carry gun (VP9SK) with this until I've spent a lot more time with it.

What interested me about the gun was the capacity in such a small footprint. It isn't about "a couple more rounds", it's about 12+1 in an almost pocket-sized gun. Given my shooting ability, the more ammo I have, the better.

The photo below shows an 8+1 Shield beside a 12+1 P365. Assuming it continues to be reliable, it should be a great summer carry piece.

FYI...I got mine for my wife. She has had recent back surgery and needed the gun to be light as possible. She found the P365 heavier when it was fully loaded than her Shield with the 7 round mag. Most people won't have an issue with this...but for those who need the gun to be lighter to carry...its an issue.

Best I can tell, the Shield and the Sig weigh the same empty.

Typical Sig. Let the public beta test them.

Bad thing its not only sig that has the practices, it seems to be standard practice anymore for most mfg’s these days for the public to test and get the bugs out. The R&D processes have shortened or budgets cut for products.

I overheard a seller at the Winston show really bashing Sig. Said he'd never own one made in the last years since the company's been managed by a guy who only cares about the numbers.

I ordered one last night. Thanks for the suggestion. We'll see how it works on this Sig.
The Hogue is about half as 'sticky' as the Pachmayr, and it's material is about twice as thick.
I prefer the Pachmayr on my full size double stack Glocks, as being thinner material it doesn't add tremendously to the already fat grip. The Hogue I prefer on others like the full size M&P, which using a staggered double stack mag makes for a thinner grip than the Glock and the Hogue works great on it.
Others like the PPQ with it's ergonomic shaped grip, neither sleeve seems to fit very well. The sleeve ends up with an air gap at the bottom where the grip curves.
Between the two sleeves, the Hogue feels a bit better, but it's just too much for the Glocks. Both provide a considerably better grip purchase than just the factory plastic though.

I rarely need anything smaller than a 19 and when I do i suppose I will stick with the 43 after reading/watching all of this. Good info, thanks!

That’s the Cadillac but it weighs the same as a Cadillac when you need a Prius. Carry the CZ Rami and yuz britchez be saggin like a cuzin in Southside.
I have a G43 and only(mostly) carry it at the house because it is a single stack. My P250 subcompact in .40 has almost the same footprint and carries 10+1. Hoped to be able to switch over to the G43 but it aint gonna happen. IMG_1468.JPG IMG_1415.JPG

To you guys that own the Sig P365, do your primers look like this on fired brass?

@Geezer I saw that on the video. Unfortunately, when I shot it yesterday, I was also shooting another 9mm so I couldn't identify the brass. If the weather cooperates tomorrow and I remember (both likely to be challenges), I'll try to put down a tarp and see what I can find.

That is primer drag. It happens on the Sig P365. It will eventually wear the firing pin and malfunction.

After the hit the barrel drops at the rear and the pin doesn’t get out of the way fast enough. Sig is not what it once was but hardly any product is if an American corporation goes public. Slaves to the stockholder and cost cutting purchasing manager.

Actually @Geezer, it seems more severe on my brass than yours.
Not my brass, I don't have a Sig. I just saw that picture somewhere else where they were discussing the problems with the Sig and wondered if you guys here were seeing this. Supposedly, this is causing firing pin breakage.

Sadly, it seems that every manufacturer is letting the buying public identify production problems instead of shipping tested guns. Glock with the G42, Remington's R-51, Sig P320, and on and on.

I can arrange for you to own one. I won't charge any extra for its ability to help you identify the spent brass. :D

There’s a steel non MIM striker being made for the 365. I think it’s from lsip maybe.

Z, if as @BlackGun posted, this is a problem with the "timing" (firing pin retracting too slowly), I'm not sure a stronger firing pin will do much other than delay the inevitable. No?

The only Sig I have ever owned was a P230 about 20 years ago. I liked it and wish I had it back. I haven't been drawn to any other Sig models.

365 is 59% better than 230 and I also won't charge you 59% more. What more can you ask?

Give me a minute, I'm still trying to check your math.

Don’t think there is a fix for primer drag as it’s a total mechanical timing issue throughout the pistol engineering. Well there is one- sell it. Sig has me rethinking a Hi Point. Hehehe.

That was ammo related, not the gun. That gun still works too btw... Replaced a few small parts and it's GTG... Can't say that about many pistols...

Love the gun but just realized I may be the only owner that hasn't posted a review on YouTube.

Yeah I don't think it fixes the drag it is just a stronger part since its machined and not MIM. I've seen some people reporting that they are trying to shave a thousandth or 2 off the striker to see if it reduces the drag but is still reliable in firing the primer.

The continual issues that keep popping up with the 365 makes me glad I didn't buy one and kept my Kahr in my pocket and on my side. :)

I had firm plans to buy one this year but I'll pass until they/ if they get all the issues worked out.

Makes me wonder whether I should have kept my Money in my pocket. ;)

The spent primers out of my 365 show the exact same primer drag, and have since the first round, but Im over 2600 rounds now and no issues at all. Mine just keeps getting better and better. Shot a fair amount of hot 147gr coated lead yesterday, they were around 145 PF, had some slight primer flattening and the primer swipes were pretty deep from the 365, but it ran just fine. Would think if it was weakened from the first 2000+ rounds that would of been a great opportunity for it to break, but it just kept on running.

Plan to keep on shooting it, a lot. May shoot another match with it this weekend. I will share any issues if they arrive.

@dave33 When you say it keeps getting better and better, is that the gun or your ability to shoot it?

All of the above really. Mine was really tight when new, just racking the slide felt a little clunky, felt like it was snapping into and out of battery. That's much smoother now, the RSA is broken in and makes racking the slide a bit smoother. Almost had to stand on the take down lever at first to get the thing apart, that's way easier now, so stuff like that seem to be wearing in very nicely. Its still super accurate if I do my part.

My ability with it is improving as well. There are a couple simple drills I like to do at the range, I keep a small notebook in my range bag and log my times so I can easily see progress and what needs work. From the first time running the 365 to now I can see quite a bit of improvement.
