Thanks to the generosity of @Crankbait, I now have a 3-9x40 scope mounted to my new Savage Mark II.

I plan to use CCI SV, because that's what I have the most of, but was curious where my zero should be?

50 yards?

I do all of mine at 50 yds. It really all depends on how far your birdfeeder is away lol. Or cornpile. If you have a scope with the hashmarks, you can sight it in at 50 and then use those marks as a reference for other yardages.

Oh and my pleasure. Glad to get you going

I set scope to 50 yards. At 75 yards the bullet drops about 2.5". At 100 yards 7.5".

50 yards will do fine....
100 yards up about 7 MOA
150 yards up about 16 MOA
200 yards up about 26 MOA

that should get close with CCI SV.... (a pretty good round). Stay subsonic and you will be in good shape)

If this is your back yard gun, range the common areas, create an average and then zero for that average. If around 50yds it isn't going to change too much. If it's a woods gun 50yds is 150' so that would be a longer shot up into a tree so that would be reasonable. When I'm smoking tree rats on the river out of the jon, most shots are in the 30-50 yd range depending on if they are on the ground and haven't seen me yet or have run up a tree requiring a longer poke.

I have a Savage FVSR and shoot CCI SV. For my rifle I zero at 50yds and these were my last numbers logged from November and if I read my scratch right... 100yds is 1.5 mils up for SV and for CCI quiet with a 50yd SV zero it is 3.6 mils up at 50yds and 8.4 mils up for CCI Quiet which at 100yds quiet is only minute of softball. I found these numbers a bit off now that it is summertime.

Nikon has an app called Nikon Spot On. It is designed to be used with their Nikon scope. It will work for other scopes too as it gives you information in inches. It is pretty simple to use and I do it on my smart phone. You can put in almost any variable info you need such ad brand, bullet weight, and velocity. I hope this will help you.
